Though he's a Texan at heart, he's holding down the fort in the Pacific Northwest and doing a great job of it. More than anything, he loves being a husband and a father. I love my coffee, and I love my coffee shop - it's where I do most of my study. Depending on how long I'm there my drink order differs; sometimes I order a cortado, sometimes I order a flat white. But if I'm there for a long time, I order a bottomless coffee. No matter how many times I empty my cup, they fill it right back up - I never run out of coffee. Well...God's grace is exactly like this. Sometimes we might feel like at some point, God is just going to cut us off - that we've sinned too many times over our life and he's run out of grace. But that's not how it works. He has lavished us with grace, and our cup runs over. We might run out of a lot of things, but we can be confident that we will never run out of grace.

A little 5 year old girl went missing earlier this week in our county. Without hours, hundreds of people showed up to look for her from our community. I was getting ready to go join the search myself when the good news was announced that she was found, priase God! It was so touching to see how so many responded to join in helping to find this one lost little girl who was alone in the darkness of the night. Well...in the same way, Jesus is our good shepherd who leaves the 99 to find that 1 who is lost. God loves every single soul, and desperately desires for all to come home to him. Do we have that same heart to go searching for even one in the darkness of this world and do whatever it takes to bring them home?

We have a summer preaching intern that has arrived, so my schedule is changing pretty significantly. I am so excited to work with him, but also...a little fearful. I'm still a very young evangelist myself - what if I mess up? What if I can't train him like others could? After an important conversation with my brother I came to an important realization...don't let fear of what I cannot do keep me from doing what I can. Well...this is just like the parable of the talents, isn't it? The master gave the servants talents according to their abilities, but the servant that was given just one was afraid, so he did nothing. Are we like him? Do we let comparison and fear destroy the fruit we should be producing for God? God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and sound judgment!

On Wednesday, I had the blessing of speaking to the Sycamore church that meets in Gravel Switch, KY. The church has met in this location since February 22, 1840 (that's before the civil war!) And now here I sat 183 years later in the same place. So much has changed since that church was first established, but you know what hasn't? Well...our faith. Though separated in so many ways over nearly two centuries, we pray to the same God & have hope through the same Savior. Not only this, but consider the great cloud of witnesses that have gone on before us. Consider the fruit they have born. How different would this world be were it not for the faith of the saints that have gone on before us?

Kylie took the kids out today to do three things: go to the nursery, pick up lunch from Lee's with honey biscuits, and then go have a picnic at the park then play. Well, when thunderstorms rolled in right as they were picking up lunch, their hopes of the park were dashed. We had some very disappointed kids, which was fine. But what wasn't fine was taking it out on their mom. That's never okay, and she had no control in the matter anyhow. Well...how often when we get disappointed do we do the same thing? We lash out at others, or even worse, we lash out at God as though he had something to do with it. We need to learn how to properly deal with our disappointment in a godly way, and that begins with realizing that we must be in control of our emotions.

Our baby birds have finally hatched! Ava and I spent the other night just watching the momma bird feed her young, and she asked why she was doing that? I had to explain that they couldn't feed or protect themselves. The momma bird's job was not done after they were born, she still had more to do until they were grown. Well...the same applies to those who are born again and spiritual infants. Our job is not simply to get people to the water - to fulfill the rest of the great commission, we must teach & protect new babes in Christ. Don't abandon someone after they obey the gospel, your job is not finished yet.

We absolutely expected to owe on taxes this year, but much to our surpise we got a refund! Or, we're getting a refund, rather. It's not here it. It's been promised, but yet to be fully realized by being placed into our account. So until then, we wait. Well...our savlation works much the same way. Are we saved? Well, yes and no. We have been cleansed from sin, but we anxiously await the promise of our hope in heaven that has not yet been realized. We know it's coming, but until then, we just have to wait.
