Life feels different when you start the day singing, then take that same energy straight into real-world adventure. We just got back from a Puerto Vallarta spring break trip that gave us equal parts sun-soaked joy and unexpected lessons: a fishing charter in a famous fishing town that delivered not a single bite, the surprising way a full moon can change the ocean, and the kind of snorkeling that makes you realize how much living beauty exists just beneath the surface. That underwater world still feels like another galaxy to me, and it reminded me why calm breathing, curiosity, and safety skills matter anytime we chase big experiences.
The trip also brought some very human parenting moments. Our kids are older now, and watching them move with a little more independence at an all-inclusive resort felt both liberating and scary. We talk about choosing courage over fear, doing the research when headlines make you second-guess travel, and why local culture matters as much as activities. From street dancing to a bilingual Catholic Easter service, the joy and faith we witnessed filled our cups and nudged us to practice Spanish without worrying about sounding perfect.
Then there’s the story that still makes me laugh and cringe: the “100% cotton” beach blankets that turned into seven blankets and one tiny tag that exposed the truth. It becomes a lesson on negotiation, asking prices upfront, speaking your piece without losing your peace, and forgiving without letting someone steal your shine.
Back home, spring fever hits hard at the farm: seeds, hoop house starts, transplanting perennials, giving extras away, and a deeper earth connection inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass.
