As spiritual athletes, we are called to pursue an eternal trophy, contrasting the fleeting rewards sought by earthly athletes. In the parable of the sower, Jesus describes four types of soil, representing different responses to God's word. Only the good soil--those who hear the word and hold it fast in an honest and good heart--ultimately bears fruit with patience. This process of bearing fruit is not instantaneous but requires endurance and patience, reflecting the Christian journey of growth and sanctification. We must guard against the false teachings that equate spiritual growth with legalism, recognizing that both receiving the word (justification) and bearing fruit (sanctification) are integral to our faith. The fault of fruitlessness lies not with the sower, Christ, or the seed, His word, but with the soil, our hearts. We are urged to be good soil, not only receiving God's word but also growing in sanctification, embodying the fruits of the Holy Spirit, and striving to please God, who has loved us first.
