SFDPS

GENRE: DISCO + SOUL

The Village bar was a gay bar located near 18th and Castro, in San Francisco, in the late 70's. This is one 10" reel-to-reel tape they were playing at the bar during the night. A mix of disco, soul, funk, pop, rock, and more.

From the Jason Williams mixtape archives. Special thanks to Jimmy DePre for digging for the tapes, and delivering them to the SFDPS studio for remastering.

Extra special thanks to Marsha Stern for securing permission from Wayne Scott to remaster, and post to the SFDPS archives.

GENRE: DISCO MEDLEY

A medley from my collection of bootleg mixers on vinyl.

This is currently the earliest DJ mixtape that we have in our mixtape archives. A time before beat matching. When DJs would slip cue 45's to have a non-stop mix. This tape is 49 years old!.....therefore, there are some audio dropouts at the beginning and end of the tape.

From the Jay Schneider mixtape archives. Thanks Jay!

Recorded live at The Trocadero Transfer in San Francisco.

*This tape was recorded at the slowest speed on reel -to-reel tape, at 1 7/8" inches per second. This speed is usually reserved for voice recording only. Since the tape was recorded at the slowest speed, there's more room for drop outs in the audio, which you will hear from time to time throughout the mix. The tape is also 45 years old. I was able to polish up the audio, remove hum that existed in the recording, and remove the excessive tape hiss.

From the Jim Hopkins Disco Mixer vinyl collection. Audio restoration by Jim Hopkins.

From the Jason WIlliams reel-to-reel collection. Unfortunately, the tape on the reel was Maxell brand, on a Scotch brand metal reel, and the tape was in the wrong box. Therefore, this is a mystery mix, with no knowledge of the DJ that made it. It's still a cool 3 hour mix. Most likely recorded by a S.F. DJ back in 1980. Enjoy!
