God's seed of love is available to anyone who wants it. It has great potential. It cannot be neglected but cultivated. The most important priority is to nurture the boundless seed of God's love in your life.

John reminds us of our status identity as the children of God implying that God's primary identity is that of a Father.

John the Apostle tells us in our text this morning that if spirituality does not look, sound and act like Jesus, it is counterfeit currency.

The Apostle John speaks of a critical time when his congregation faces the challenges of antichrists that bring external and internal pressure to not follow Christ. John encourages the congregation that they have received an anointing of the Holy Spirit that enables them to kick the darkness until it bleeds daylight.

John tells his readers not to love the world or anything in the world. What world is he talking about? The physical world? The world of humanity? It seems John is alluding to the way of desire as seen in the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. He is describing life in the Roman world. It is the way of the Roman Empire as he contemplates the way of rule of Rome.

John addresses the children, young men and fathers as symbols of the those who have persevered on the journey of following Jesus. Each title represents an encouragement to those who are loved by God and see to over come the evil one.

John the Apostle reminds us that the new command of Jesus to love is a reiteration of the old command found in Leviticus.

Jesus is an advocate for us as we mature in our ability to love.

God is described as light in whom there is no darkness. Light reveals, measures and energizes.

Different images of God over the course lead God to reveal Himself fully in the person of Jesus Christ.
