Shaping our Future Athletic Trainers - Tanya Dargusch, ATC & Eric Schwartz, MS, ATC

Listen Later

We as ATs have a very important duty.  If we want the future of our profession to be even better than we have it currently, we must provide effective and impactful mentorship for the athletic trainers of the future. There is a purposeful approach to this.  It's always going to be a valuable conversation when you combine a conversation with an NATA Hall of Famer, a former ATSNJ President, and host Ryan Stevens!  Ryan had the opportunity to sit down with Tanya Dargusch, LAT, ATC and Eric Schwartz, MS, LAT, ATC, who collaborate as the two athletic trainers serving Washington Township High School in New Jersey. It is no secret Tanya and Eric have done an outstanding job in mentoring future athletic trainers through preceptor affiliations with Rowan University and a successful Washington Township High School Student Aide program. We get deep into it in this episode!

Tanya Dargusch, a graduate of Central Michigan University, has been Washington Township's AT since 1988. Before arriving at WTHS, she was one of the pioneers of industrial athletic training with her work at Walbro Corporation.  Highly involved in many NATA committees and special interest initiatives throughout her career, Tanya is a nationally know public speaker in AT. She has many amazing accolades, including being a member of the NATA Hall of Fame, the NJ State Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and ATSNJ Hall of Fame.  She is a winner of the NATA Service Award, EATA Scholastic Athletic Trainer Award, and the ATSNJ Distinguished Service Award,
Eric Schwartz, a graduate of East Stroudsberg University and The College of New Jersey, has been an AT at Washington Township since 2011.  A former ATSNJ President, Eric has been honored with the NATA Athletic Trainer Service award, ATSNJ Distinguished Service Award, and the NJSIAA Service Award. Also highly active in our profession, Eric has previously served on the Executive Council, Governmental Affairs, Secondary School, and Public Relations committees of the ATSNJ. He currently serves as the president of the NJ Athletic Training Political Action Committee board of directors.
