We're sharing history with a special guest. Chicago filmmaker, Cassie Ballschmidt takes the reigns to school us on American screenwriter and director, Frances Marion, just as Frances Marion schooled the whole dang film industry.

From a Parisian atrocity to a Malagasy monarch, both of our stories today feature challenges in storytelling. In one, because the French would rather forget it happened, in the other, because of unreliable narrators...including the French. We're spilling the tea on the Vel' d'Hiv Round Up in WWII and then spilling blood with Ranavalona the Mad Queen of Madagascar.

We’re back, we’re weekly and we’re bringing guests. That’s right, Cass and Nat are returning to share more history that they wish had been given more pages and time in history books and curricula. We recorded a whole ONE episode before needing to shelter-in-place, but that didn’t stop us.
This season we’re bringing you film history, music history, naval history, Disney history, Olympic history, roller skating history(?) and so many more overlooked and underrepresented stories, and we’re bringing them to you weekly beginning Tuesday, May 5th!

Our first ever BONUS episode is from our first ever LIVE show! Enjoy a first-hand account of the Naperville Central High School mummy (as discussed in Episode 005) with special guest, James Galanis, former World History teacher and ‘Mummy Caretaker’ for 25 years.
In addition to ensuring the mummy’s safety and sharing the story with students, Mr. Galanis got to participate in multiple fact-finding endeavors surrounding the mummy’s history and authenticity — including a visit from National Geographic as a part of their Mummy Roadshow series in 2002.
This episode was recorded live from the Tamarack Golf Club in Naperville, IL as a part of Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors first ‘Ed Talk,’ appropriately themed “Naperville Histories and Mysteries.”

Bundle up because Nat is here to tell the story of the 1925 Serum Run to Nome since Cass STILL hasn't seen the animated and not historically accurate masterpiece, Balto. Tune in for a harrowing tale of a potential epidemic, bad weather and very good doggos.

On this Thanksgiving episode, Cass tells us about the Confederates. No. Not those Confederates. We head back to pre-colonial America to talk about the Iroquois Confederacy, the Great League of Peace, one of the most successful governmental systems ever established.
