Adam, Nat, Claire, Big Rachel, Margaret McIver, Catherine Cranston AND a sexy Centurion ghost who may or may not resemble Arthur Darvill? It’s getting pretty crowded on this, the first-ever episode of Shared History: Under The Kilt. Join us as we take on three exceptional Glaswegian women. Well, not actually ‘take them on,’ they’re rather intimidating, tbh. But, we are learning about them, thanks to our lovely guest, author and screenwriter, CS Duffy.
More on Claire:
Claire Duffy, aka CS Duffy (@CSDuffyWriter), is a Glasgow-based author and screenwriter, but she's kind of from all over? She's the author of Glasgow Kiss series of crime thrillers and The Stranger for Storytel. Her new book, Before Again, an urban fantasy/adventure set in Glasgow is available for preorder and is currently being serialised for free via her website here. It features both Rachel and Kate and I'm sure Maggie will make an appearance at some point in the series!

It's a spin off, baby! Wander the historical heather and explore the less worn paths of Scottish History with Scottish Actor, Adam McNamara and Chicago Comedian (and co-host of Shared History), Natalie Younger. From the Picts to present day, we're delving deep into bonnie Scotland and all her glory, missteps and omissions in history. Series premieres July 22, 2020.
Meet Your Hosts

Our final story this season is so good, you'll want to stay up all night enjoying it. But get your rest, we'll still be here tomorrow night to keep the story (and ourselves) alive. Sound familiar? We're joined by actor/comedian Tara Egan for an incredibly nerdy exploration of the history and themes of Arabic folktales, the frame narrative and the infamous compilation: One Thousand and One Nights. While this may be our SEASON 4 FINALE, much like our protagonist Scheherazade, Shared History will live to see another day and tell another story.
More on Tara:
Tara Egan is a comedian and actress based in Chicago. When she’s not on stage, Tara is traveling the world and eating all of the good food. You can usually catch her performing all around Chicago, but at present, anyone in the world could watch her perform with ComedySportz Chicago on their live, free, virtual improv shows at Twitch.tv/CSZNChicago.
The Scarlet Pirate (feat Tara) be playing at 7:30 PM on Sunday August 15th at the iconic Music Box Theater Garden. Oh and taraegan.com is set to launch this summer so keep an eye out!

Nothing is impossible for this week's topics. Throw it on a vision board and get it done. Nat takes us on a run through the story of Cathy Freeman, the first Australian aboriginal woman to medal at the Olympics. And Cass takes us out to sea with Captain Robert Smalls whose daring sea escape from slavery could have gone wrong at every turn.

We're talking about Tenth Muse, queer icon and goddess of lyric poetry, Sappho. Naturally, we're joined by Leesa Charlotte & Alyse Knorr, 2/3 of the Sweetbitter podcast crew, the only Sappho podcast out there.
More on Sweetbitter:
Sweetbitter is an investigative history podcast with a focus on queer women’s history. Each season, they explore a different corner of history, using literary works or historical figures as a starting point to discuss a broader story of erasure of people with marginalized identities.
In their first season, they delved into the truth and controversy of Sappho — her life on the Isle of Lesbos, homosexuality in ancient Greece, and her legacy today. In Season 2, they will focus on the history of queer and women pirates.

Math, science, astronomy, music, poetry... this week, we decided to tackle every area of study. First, Cass serenades us with the International Sweethearts of Rhythm: the first fully integrated, all-female band in the United States. They changed the game in modern jazz. Then, Natalie introduces us to Wang Zhenyi, 18th c. Chinese mathematician, scientist, astronomer, poet, et. al. who excelled at breaking down and explaining all of those things so that dumb dumbs like us could understand it. Ladies really do be doing the most!
