A serpent, in his conversation with the Woman in the Garden, contradicts instructions that God gave to Adam - that he was not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Believing the serpent, Adam and his wife ate the forbidden fruit, and now have the knowledge of good and evil. We see the consequences of their disobedience of God.
