Yaara’s is not-the-usual path to architecture, in Australia at least, but like us all, her background, her experiences and her travels, have shaped her world view and led her to this point. 
Yaara is an ardent advocate for sustainable and regenerative design as well as for teaching and learning and is a proponent for the adage, “give what you can and take what you need”.
Her journey follows a series of life changing decisions and is full of quiet wisdoms and I’m delighted that she has shared part of it with us.

A familiar figure in the Adelaide architecture sphere, Nicolette balances a richly woven experience professionally and personally. 
In this conversation we touch on many things; among them the pace of life now compared with a perhaps gentler, perhaps more polite recent past, the change from practice to administration, the value of advocacy and the fundamental nature of architecture and the role of architects.  We dip into the education of architects and the state of society and the value of not taking things for granted among other lofty and important topics.
Nicolette is thoughtful in her observations and candid with her thoughts, making for a very enjoyable and enlightening conversation.

On first meeting Jo you will be struck by her warmth and openness and by her ability to articulate her thoughts clearly and always respectfully. 
In this conversation, we touch on generational wisdoms, passions, the power of positivity and the pleasure you can take from architecture if you dive right in.  There is some good advice about making the most of the journey, about looking outward and at the big picture, and about community, collaboration and experimentation, all the while adapting, evolving and thriving.  In all, a gift of insights and reflections.

At the time of the interview, Deb was Senior advisor with the Department for Education.  She has since returned to Brown Falconer as Principal and this conversation allows us a glimpse of the dedication and passion which has gained her the widespread respect of the profession, clients and colleagues, and of the kindness, humour and optimism she radiates whenever you are lucky enough to be in the same space.
This conversation takes us back to Deb’s early days.  I hope you enjoy her story as much as I did! 

TotalSpace was founded in 1993.  30 years on, Sarah merged her practice with Grieve Gillett Architects.  This interview was done prior to the merge and our conversation ranges an expansive field.  It’s an inspiring story of how architecture can work alongside teaching and learning, philosophy, philanthropy, and advocacy and of how embracing opportunities can unleash a fulfilling career inside and outside of architecture.
