Today I had the great good fortune of being in conversation with Lane Smith. Lane is a transmasculine nonbinary writer with over 20 years of experience as an activist, organizer, and Tarot reader. They have been involved in struggles against war, the death penalty, attacks on LGBT rights and body autonomy for marginalized genders and birthing people, police violence, and apartheid. They have worked as a social worker in prisons, and in the field of harm reduction with people who are at risk for HIV/AIDS. With a professional Master’s degree in Social Work and an academic Master’s degree in Humanities and Social Thought, Lane expresses their ideas in clear, nonacademic language in the interest of putting social justice values into practice. Lane is the editor of the Tarot & Politics zine, and a member of Solidarity Tarot where they live in Baltimore City, Maryland.

In addition to publishing the Tarot & Politics zine—a paid venue for Tarot writers and artists that prioritizes the voices of BIPOC, trans, nonbinary, queer, disabled and neurodivergent people—Lane is also author of the forthcoming 78 Acts of Liberation: Tarot to Transform Our World, available for pre-order now. + they also have a newsletter called Rebel Specters, which I highly recommend.

Today I have the great good fortune of being in conversation with Ki Martinez. Ki received their training in the UK at the Sea School of Embodiment in 2020, becoming a Certified Embodiment Coach as well as a Certified Sexological Bodyworker. Ki is a member of the worldwide Association for Certified Sexological Bodyworkers (ACSB). Today, they specialize in working with growth-oriented people of all genders, erotic explorers, creatives, helping professionals, adults with anxiety, + folks suffering from the effects of trauma.

Ki is also a Somatic Anti-Oppression Practitioner + Educator, teaching courses on Somatics for Social Justice with Both/And Collective.

Prior to this work, Ki was a community organizer + facilitator in leadership development. Their focus was coaching social change makers + creatives looking to lead value-driven lives. Even in that work, they encountered the importance of embodiment + somatic practice for creating real change.

Ki holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Loyola University in Chicago.

I had the great good fortune of being in conversation with Suzette Clough. We had an epic convo about Visual Medicine, creativity + spirituality, her unique painting process + many more things!

Suzette Clough has been painting for 53 years. She originally trained in painting at Sydney College of the Arts in Australia, where she was born + grew up. While at art school, she had what used to be called a psychotic breakdown. In an attempt to heal from this experience, alongside a growing desire to use the insights that had begun to show themselves through her paintings, she wanted to work with people using creativity as a spiritual healing process. She moved to London + began training as a psychotherapist at the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy. This was a radical + life changing 5-year training in somatic embodied psychotherapy. As well as an intensive hands-on practitioner training, Suzette entered into long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy. 

She has run art therapy groups at psychiatric hospitals, used art-making with clients with eating disorders + other addictions. She worked at a radical hospice for people with HIV + AIDS, alongside various healing projects where she has used Visual Medicine with women who have experienced the criminal justice system + those with mental health issues stemming from the pernicious effects of patriarchy on our collective nervous system. 

Her experiences also allowed her to develop Visual Medicine—a teachable creative practice, with psyche-logical understanding informed by the Unconscious + Materiality that is situated within an oracular earth-based gynocentric spirituality. The continuing evolution of Visual Medicine is a vibrant collaboration between her amazing students + clients, her own creativity, the Ancestors, the Unseen, the Invisible Ones, the Creation Devas, + the loving fields of Original Pattern Ancestor Beings that surround us.
