📚 This week’s podcast: Reading at Shears Green
This week, we’re talking about how we’re immersing children in books during lessons and how families can support daily reading at home. We explain our levelled reading books, explore the ePlatform library and make a heartfelt plea to return school books—they’re expensive and we need them for other children!
We also look ahead to Parents’ Evening, where staff will share reading information and practical handouts, with the Book Fair available on both evenings. Please come and talk to us about your child’s reading—we’re here to help!
How do we help children feel safe at Shears Green Junior School?
In this episode, we explore how we safeguard children and encourage them to share their worries—from identifying a trusted adult to recognising staff badges and visitor lanyards, and using our worry boxes and online worry box.
We also share simple questions families can ask at home to help children feel confident about speaking up and asking for help.
Our message to every child: you matter, we will listen, and you do not have to manage a worry on your own.
In this week’s podcast, we respond to parents’ feedback about behaviour. We explain how some behaviour can be a sign of dysregulation, how we support children, and the clear steps we take when behaviour puts learning or safety at risk. We also share how our weekly assemblies reinforce our school rules and values.
This week, we talk about the difference between bullying, friendship difficulties and one-off unkind behaviour. We also explain how Shears Green prevents, investigates and responds to concerns through our pastoral support, school values and the rules: Respect, Ready and Safe.
Join Mr P for this week’s Shears Green update on helping children feel safe and confident online. Discover simple conversation starters for a five-minute family check-in, alongside advice on sharing photographs, understanding AI-altered images and choosing one small step to improve online safety.
The key message for every child: you can always ask for help.
