Like a farmer growing crops, our spiritual lives have the ability to produce some pretty amazing fruit. Love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control don't just happen on their own. This fruit is the product of intentional decisions. And we don't produce fruit for us to hoard, but to give it away.

Music has a way of communicating like nothing else. Ever hit mute while watching a horror film? The suspense is immediately muted. Music helps tell stories, it helps connect our soul to the words of our favorite songs. And scripture makes it clear that music was created for the glory of God and for our good.

As a nation, we're working harder and taking fewer breaks than ever before. Due to our overconnectivity, we're stuck in the comparison trap of seeing what everyone else has and all that we're lacking. America has been called the most anxious country in the world. We're a people in search of rest.

Community is a word often heard in the church. It's often heard even more at SCC because it's in our name, Shelbyville Community Church. But what does community have to do with us as a masterpiece? In the world of music, one note sounds good. But when you start playing chords and putting notes together, that's when you start making music. What if each of us, uniquely individual, were designed to work together?

The Mona Lisa, the Last Supper, and the Sistine Chapel are all masterpieces, created with intentionality. They are intimate pieces refined by the artist until completion. Created with a plan and a purpose. God uses prayer in the same way! When we have an intentional prayer life with our heavenly Father He uses it to refine us into the Masterpieces that He planned long before we were born.

There is a huge backlash against what is sometimes called “Organized Religion” in our culture. The tone is along these lines: “I don’t trust institutional religion. It gets in the way of true spirituality, which is better practiced at a lake or in the forest.” But what if this simply isn’t true?
