Matthew 16:13-20

Some truths are so familiar that we can forget how astonishing they really are. When Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Peter gives the answer at the heart of the Christian faith: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

That familiar confession is still an unexpected and life-changing truth. Jesus is not merely a wise teacher, a moral example, or even a great prophet. The Son of Man is the Son of God—true man who stands in our place and true God whose life, death, and resurrection are sufficient to save us. Built on this rock-solid truth, Christ’s Church can face guilt, suffering, death, and even the gates of hell with confidence.

Ephesians 2:13-22

We’re good at deciding who belongs and who doesn’t—even in church. But Paul reveals an unexpected truth: every Christian began as an outsider. Sin separated all of us from God, but Jesus brought us near through his blood. In Christ, strangers become family, outsiders become citizens, and sinners become part of God’s dwelling place. And if Jesus has torn down the walls, we have no business building them back up.

Romans 8:28-39

What makes Christians different when life hurts and we can’t understand why? Romans 8:28–31 gives us something far better than “everything happens for a reason” or the hope that karma will somehow balance the scales. Christians don’t need to decipher God’s hidden plan: we know what he has promised. The God who called us, justified us through Christ, and is conforming us to the image of his Son is for us—and nothing can separate us from his love.

1 Kings 3:5-12

What would you ask for if God promised to give you anything you wanted? More money? More time? Relief from the problem weighing on you?

When Solomon received that offer, he asked for something surprisingly modest: a heart that listens. His request reveals the difference between a heart that approaches God with all the answers and one that trusts God enough to listen. But Solomon’s story is about more than imitating a wise king. It begins with God’s grace, points beyond Solomon to a greater Son of David, and reminds us that in Jesus, God has already given us a treasure greater than anything we could think to ask for.

Isaiah 44:6-11

Jesus said believers would live alongside unbelief and evil until the Last Day. That reality can leave Christians feeling frustrated, afraid, or eager to take control. Isaiah 44 helps us consider how God’s people can live faithfully and confidently in a field full of weeds.

1 Corinthians 3:5-11

The world expects growth to come through strong personalities, persuasive leaders, and effective strategies. But the church grows differently. Pastors and Christians can plant the seed of God’s Word and water it faithfully, but only God can create faith and make it grow.That truth is both humbling and freeing. We do not need to make anyone believe, carry the guilt when someone resists the gospel, or compete for credit when faith bears fruit. Our calling is to keep sharing Christ crucified and risen, trusting God to work through his powerful Word in his time and in his way.

What happens when following Jesus costs more than expected? A backflip, a poker table, and Jesus’ startling words about peace and a sword all point toward the same uncomfortable question: What are we willing to lose in order to hold on to what is true?

When God's Word creates tension with family, friendships, comfort, or the approval of the world, silence can feel safer than speaking. But the peace Jesus brings is deeper than avoiding conflict, and the life he promises is greater than anything we may fear giving up.

2 Timothy 4:1-8

When the world doesn’t want to hear the truth, why keep speaking it? 2 Timothy 4:1–8 answers with Paul’s charge to Timothy and to Christ’s church: Preach the Word. Even under pressure, even when silence feels safer, Christians are called to confess Christ with courage—because his truth is still needed, and his final verdict is better than the world’s.

1 Timothy 1:12-17

Paul gives us a trustworthy saying: "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." "God loves sinners" seems easy to say until you think about what it means...It means if we want God's love, we have to admit we're really sinners!

Paul does not minimize sin. He calls himself a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent man. But his story is not finally about how great his sin was. It is about how much greater Christ’s mercy is. If Jesus showed patience to Paul, then no sinner is beyond the reach of his grace.
