We are thrilled to have the vivacious and equally brilliant Dr. Riana Elyse Anderson energize this episode of She’s A Genius. Not only is she one of the incredible board members of She’s A Genius nonprofit but she also leads across the globe as a clinical psychologist, activist, and assistant professor. She gives us a glimpse of how she was born in, raised for, and returned to (the city of) Detroit. Dr. Anderson helps us understand her strides and undertakings to develop a more consciously awakened, educated, and healthy world. She leads beyond the classroom and advocates for mental health through her nonprofit involvement as the founder of EMBRace and mental health minute program. Dr. Anderson talks with us about her vision to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health in the black community. She even keeps it a buck and a half about being a young Poppin African American female professor- including the challenges, expectations, and responsibilities that come with the role. Some Genius Gems Dr. Anderson tells us to include, the ‘historical contexts to survival in the black community and the ties to silence’; ‘tools for parent and adolescent psychological well-being’; and ‘reminders to recharge in order to keep the healthy balance’. Tune in to listen to all this goodness.
