We've got a history lesson for you today Whackers! But first we're yapping about having a case of the Thursdays, BASEketball, and being on time. Then we're giving you our thoughts on Sydney Sweeney's Novig ad, Amanda Hirsch's Polymarket Ad, and selling out in general. Then it's time to get in the weeds with a fun history lesson. Last week's discussion about infantilization got us thinking about some of the things we do that could possibly perpetuate the narrative that women are childlike and submissive and therefore not as capable as men. Due to the recent trend of "I'm just a girl" content we thought it would be interesting to look into the words "woman" and "girl" to get some insight into where these words originated and how they've evolved over the years. We also decided to research certain beauty standards that seem to have emerged very early in western culture and still have us in a chokehold today. We're digging deep on the origin of dresses for women and pants for men, face makeup but specifically blush, body hair removal, and our obsession with thinness. In the end it all comes back to morality (and submissiveness), class distinction, and racial hierarchy. We were certainly surprised by some of the information and we think you will be too! As always we wrap it up with gripes about non standardized puzzles and bad coffee and grapes to running hacks and bestie telepathy. See you in the weeds!

We're digging deep on a recent article in The Cut titled, Confessions of a recovering baby woman on the enduring fantasy of being "just a girl" - and how I finally decided to get a grip and grow up, by Shannon Keating. But first, we're yapping about 20 year old hair dryers, beauty products, and the science (or lack thereof) behind hyaluronic acid. Then we've got a circle back to our conversation about the online dialogue happening between single and married women and an idea to what could possibly be the origin of some of the defensiveness coming from married women and this idea ties nicely into a circle back to our review of Practical Magic. In our review of the movie we mentioned a quote from one of the Aunts in which she states that craving normalcy denotes a lack of courage and we have some expanded thoughts about that. Next, we're discussing a TikTok video and a recent episode of Untold Stories which both demonstrate how easy it is for people to consume the same content and walk away with completely different perspectives. Then, we're diving into a reality check to discuss the latest Bravo goings ons and during this segment we take a minute to reflect on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Then it's time to get in the weeds with our discussion about The Cut article. The article made some valid overarching points but failed to really get into the meat of the issue and we found her examples to be more representative of life as a young person in general rather than infantilization. There were some good jumping off points but we felt it left a little to be desired overall. As always we wrap it up with gripes about custodial issues and driving hazards and grapes to seasonal changes and film nostalgia.

It's Pop Culture Archives where we rewatch and recap our favorite millennial movies through an adult (and often feminist) lens. In anticipation of the sequel which hits theaters tomorrow we figured it was excellent timing to queue up Practical Magic! But first, we're yapping about kids cutting their hair (ourselves included), Leah Remini joining Beverly Hills, and Carol Radziwill returning to RHONY. After a bit of housewives chit chat we're getting into a discussion about a dialogue that's happening online between single and married women which ties nicely into the themes of today's movie recap. Then it's time to get in the weeds with a Pop Culture Archives review of Practical Magic! We are bringing you some fun facts about the movie and cast and then we're digging deep on themes of misogyny, the madonna whore complex, pick me fixation, and which kind of women deserve fairy tale endings. That being said, we absolutely love this movie and we consider this one of the better rom coms of the era. Diane Wiest, Stockard Channing, Sandra Bullock, and Nicole Kidman deliver excellent and hilarious performances and we appreciate the spooky supernatural elements. We've got a special guest today! We're honored to be sitting down with one half of Two Moms Writing LLC, Heidi Dugan! Heidi's a long time friend of ours, a friend of the pod, a wife and mother to 2 young boys, and has been writing scripts and screen plays with her friend and writing partner, Stella Ruggiero, for over a decade. They've produced award winning scripts and currently have a film in development. We'll be discussing how Heidi got into screen writing and the behind scenes on what goes into getting a film made. Recently, they've leaned into Stella's journalism background and began investigating the disappearance of a woman who vanished from their hometown of Meadville, PA back in 2022. Debra Daniel, a 67 year old woman battling emphysema and living in low income housing, was last seen on August 13th getting into the car of a "known man "and was never heard from again. Very few details have ever been released about Debbie's case and Debbie's not the kind of victim that gets a lot of media attention. Heidi and Stella having been working hard to shine a well deserved light on Debbie's story. Season 1 of their new podcast Loose Threads covers Debbie's case and let's the listener in on who Debbie was as a person, who and what she cared about, who cared about her, and clues to what may have happened to her. A little change in programming today. We've been traveling and couldn't get it together for a live recording so we apologize. We are gearing up for a part 2 of this episode so we thought it was the perfect time to circle back!
