  • Ep 31: Rewind: Only Fans and AI

Hey Besties! Welcome back to another Rewind episode of Or Something Like That. Hollis and I will be back on the mics for next week's episode but we've really enjoyed pulling these out of the vault and we hope you've enjoyed listening! First and foremost on today's episode we're making a reference to the title of the podcast which I'm not sure we've ever actually shared with the listeners. If you haven't put it together already I promise we'll dive into that next week! Next, we're sharing some thoughts on choosing baby names and we have a take that might surprise you! Then we're chatting about live theater and entertainment in general, what we like and don't like, why they should bring back the variety show, and that one time we saw the Book of Mormon. Hot take, it was just okay. Next up we're getting into an interesting discussion about Only Fans and share some our own personal boundaries and expectations for relationships. Would you be comfortable with a partner who was subscribed to Only Fans? We're surprised at how common this theme seems to be and we have some opinions. We'd love to hear yours so let us know in the comments. This leads into a conversation about the booming AI industry and we discuss our thoughts, hopes, and concerns about what it means for our future. As always we're wrapping up with gripes about alarms going off and thermostats and a grape to the valiant goodwill employee who was simply not taking any BS from anyone. Thanks for being here!

  • Ep 30: Rewind: Fallen Idols - Digging Deep on the Allegations Against Nick Carter

    Send us Fan Mail

Hey Besties! Our team (by team I mean Hollis and me, we’re the team) is working hard to bring you a new and improved version of the podcast and we are planning to launch a rebrand by the end of the summer. Throughout the next few months while we’re plugging away to bring you an exciting new experience we'll be occasionally releasing some Rewind episodes of previously recorded content from the early days of the podcast that never aired. We’ll still be recording live and current but we thought it would be fun to look back, let you in on the beginning of the journey, and gain some insight on how we’ve evolved thus far. We’re so excited to launch the rebrand and be able to realize and share our full vision for the podcast. You can expect a name change as well as changes to the graphics and visual aesthetic. There won’t be huge changes to the content but we hope to slightly elevate it and we are thrilled to be able to put a mission statement and official brand behind it. We so appreciate all of your support over the past months and we can’t wait to show you what’s on the horizon. We think you’re going to love it! That being said, welcome to the first Rewind episode originally recorded in July of 2024! First up, we’re discussing the hard-hitting questions that kids ask and how you can prepare for some but others not so much and how sometimes even defining the simplest words can feel impossible when you’re put on the spot. Parenting is hard and also hilarious! Next up we’re talking Game of Thrones and House of Dragons amongst other HBO shows and we get into a discussion about the rise of male nudity in television and movies and how it’s different from female nudity. On one hand, justice for women who have been showing their bodies for years while the men have mostly remained clothed until recently, but on the other hand, do we really need it and do we need that much of it? Amidst that discussion we realize that as we get older it gets harder and harder to watch actors portraying minors in super sexualized roles a la that of Euphoria and similar shows. Next, we’re getting into our main topic which is a discussion about the Carter family documentary Fallen Idols (Max 2024). The documentary primarily focuses on Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys and the sexual assault allegations against him and we’ve got thoughts about the allegations, toxic fandom, child stardom, and adult male superstars with underage girls as their target audience. Next, we’re diving into some of our recent anxiety dreams and wondering why more often than not they tend to be about the past and not our current lives. And finally, we’re wrapping things up with gripes about the Clicklist and super glue tubes and grapes to fresh cut flowers and pineapple corers. Thanks for being here!

Disclaimer: Opinions shared on this podcast pertain to allegations and alleged facts outlined in the documentary Fallen Idols. Carter maintains his innocence and the legal proceedings are still ongoing. The outcomes of these cases are yet to be determined.

  • Ep 28: Misogyny in Music: Examining Songs Through a Post Me Too Lens

    Send us Fan Mail

Hey Besties! Welcome back to another episode of Or Something Like That. We’ve got a jam-packed episode for you today. First things first we’re recapping a Saturday spent at the Roaring 20s gala and the difficulties of sourcing an outfit for such an event in our mindful consumption eras. We’re laughing about how we picture our facial expressions in our minds and how different that is from how we really look and whether or not we will ever get used to seeing ourselves on camera. Perhaps someday. Next, we’re discussing the phenomenon of the millennial mole. Spoiler alert, we both have it. Do you? Also, remember when everyone hated millennials? So do we. Well, look at us now! Next, we’re wondering about body counts in the current climate of dating. Are people asking about this, does this matter? We don’t think so and we’re telling you why. Finally, we’re getting into our topic for this episode which is representation of misogyny and toxic masculinity in music. We’re discussing the Me Too era controversy around Baby Its Cold Outside and sharing some examples of songs that have always bothered us. This led us into a discussion about artists and other public figures who have disappointed us and whether or not you can separate the art from the artist and if it’s morally acceptable to do so. Lastly, we’re moving into our reality check segment of the episode where we’re discussing RHOBH and the new season of The Valley. From Garcelle’s dramatic reunion exit to Jax’s addiction and mental health journey we’re going to mention it all!

Next we're trying to figure out what we do for fun and debating whether it's card sharp or card shark and why we seem to have a hard time getting phrases just right. We're bringing you our thoughts on the Blue Origin Ladies Launch, what it is and isn't doing for feminism, and whether or not we would go to space. Finally ,its time to get into our Pop Culture Archives topic for this episode which is the E reality series The Girls Next Door. We're discussing the show, Holly and Bridgette's podcast, and our thoughts on Playboy and sex work in general. Of course we cap things off with our weekly grapes and gripes. Hope you join us!

Next we're bringing you a synopsis on an episode of the Mel Robbin's podcast in which she interviews Dr. Stacy Sims, physiology expert and nutrition scientist, about the do's and don'ts of diet and fitness for women. • Ep 23: Hannah Berner and Meg Thee Stallion: Navigating the Conversation About Microagressions and Racial Bias

    Send us Fan Mail

Today's topic is sensitive yet important. We're diving into microagressions and racial bias and navigating the discourse in the current climate. But first, we're catching up about power outages and going to concerts with our parents and then we're reminiscing about the March Madnesses of yesteryear. We've got a fun update on the Julia Reagan billboard and Hollis has some thoughts on her new haircut. Sam's sharing a genius hack for all the sentimental but also type A moms out there who want to preserve the memories but cannot stand the clutter. We're coming at you with some afterthoughts on the Oscars, yes we're still thinking about it, and a sensitive yet productive conversation about microagressions on the heels of the Vanity Fair red carpet interviews. We're addressing the interview with Megan Thee Stallion and discussing the microagressive comments made by Hannah Berner, her response to it, what it means to be an ally, and how we navigate all of this as white women trying to learn and grow. We hope you join in the conversation and we'd love to hear your feedback. We wrap up on a lighter note with our grapes and gripes about mens' cologne, public restroom etiquette, wind chimes, and nature's ASMR. Thanks for listening and leave us that 5 star review!
