The film is a ficitionalized account of a conversation these men had during the real life event of Clay becoming the heavyweight champion of the world on Feb 25th 1964.

Directed by Regina King the dialogue in the film touches on issues this country still deals with today.

The HBO documentary Black Art: In the absence of light one curator sets about to put together a 1976 exhibit that the mainstream art community could not be ignored. From there we go on a journey of discovery that showcases black artists, their works throughout history and present day.

Originally, I recorded this episode last December as a throwback movie review. Ffwd a few months later and the 1980’s film Big Trouble, Little China hits different now.

We do bring up the problematic issues in it. But you also lso gain another perspective on Asian American actors going against and playing into their stereotypes.

If you haven’t seen the film it is free on YouTube. The conversation works without watching it but it does help.

Aspiring filmmaker Evi and I agree this film is a comedy fantasy action that lives up to the status of cult classic.

The film United States vs Billie Holiday on Hulu centers around the jazz singer and her many troubles she had with the law due mainly to her singing ‘Strange Fruit’ a song about lynching. It also shows her battle with drugs and abusive men. Played brilliantly by Andra Day this film touched on a lot of issues but never showed us what made Billie Holiday a cultural icon still to this day.
