We just don’t do it, not because we are not able to do it. It comes from《孟子梁惠王上篇》。Taking Mount Tai under your arm and crossing the northern sea, if you say, “I am unable,” that is really unable. Splitting wood for the elderly, if you say, “I am unable,” that is not acting, but not unable.
We just don’t do it, not because we are not able to do it. On the contrary, we should say, “we can make it!” During tough times, or when we’re under stress, we all try to keep ourselves going. The sentence, “Everything happens for a reason,” reminds us of our values, so we can connect to a little positive encouragement when we need it. When we’re feeling less than confident, we might tell ourselves to just “fake it until we make it.” There are days when we just don’t feel our best. We might be under the cold weather, distracted by other things, or dealing with grief. Sometimes, when we need to push forward anyway, we act as if everything’s fine. Our body languages and actions certainly impact our mood and vice versa. These all show us that we don’t feel like doing anything well. In that case, mentorship and coaching relationships are built on authenticity and vulnerability, and are made for our benefits. We don’t pretend we can make it, but we need support. The fact is that anything we’re working to master will feel awkward at first. We talk to ourselves, “we just don’t do it, not because we are not able to do it.” We, then, continue to practice it until the new habits become more natural. It is one of the possibilities that we can make it.
Moreover, in order to make things better, we have to know ourselves. When we have a better understanding of ourselves, we’re able to experience ourselves as the persons we truly are. No two people are exactly alike, so our journeys and plans will be unique to only our personalities and experiences. The more we know about ourselves, the better we will be good at setting intentions and overcoming barriers toward our life experiences and desires. Self-awareness is empowering! Everyone’s path to success is unique. There are countless successful stories about athletes, celebrities, monks, entrepreneurs and corporate executives, and each one has found their inner source of motivation and tapped into it. It’s their personal superpower. Therefore, finding our personal superpower is very important, and it begins with our self-awareness.
