When Peter pulls Jesus aside to rebuke Jesus for talking about his death and resurrection Jesus quickly rebukes Peter, in front of the other disciples by calling him Satan (what’s up with that) but challenging the way he was thinking. Mark gives this account of Jesus and Peter because he wants the readers to know that we can get off track if we allow our human thinking to define our walk with Jesus. It also shows us something even more profound about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. It’s about laying down our lives in order to find our lives.
