In this episode, I sit down with a friend - a curious traveler & an education advocate - Mack Moyer. We talk about his lessons & adventures that came from his decision to quit a well paying corporate job to spend a year back packing around the world (at the time this was recorded it was 99 countries) , and as I am typing this he is in his 100th spot - Costa Rica - enjoying remote work and the sun! If anyone knows a thing or two about going out of their comfort zones, it is definitely Mack! You can follow his travels @where_is_mack
About Mack: Mack Moyer was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He graduated from Salisbury University with an undergraduate degree in Marketing before moving to Seoul, South Korea at the age of 23, to be an English Teacher at a private academy. What was meant to only be a year abroad, turned into a significant chapter in his life that lasted 8 years and spanned several countries. Mack found that he loved being a teacher and he enjoyed the expat life. However, at the age of 30, Mack was given the opportunity to leverage his business education, as well as his experience in the classroom to work as a Sales Manager in Saudi Arabia for a large educational publishing company. During this time Mack also completed a Global MBA through the University of Manchester (Dubai campus). After 4 years working as a Sales professional, and 8 years in the Middle East, Mack decided to follow a dream of his. He quit his 6-figure salaried job, sold all of his belongings, packed one big rucksack, and set off on an 18-month backpacking trip around the world. This trip took him through more than 30 countries, across 5 continents. During this time Mack was able to cross off many of his bucket list items, such as dive in the Galapagos, attend the Russian World Cup, sail among the Greek Islands, and trek the mountains of Borneo to see orangutans in their natural habitat; all the while making friends with countless people across numerous cultures. These days Mack has settled down back in America (NYC to be exact) and continues to work as a Sales professional for a French-American EdTech startup. He is very happy working for a company that has made proven impact towards improving literacy rates among young learners, however he believes that he will probably go back to being an expat when this chapter of his life is over. ______________________
