Publisher's Summary:
Allison Allen made a career of being someone else. Formerly a professional actor, and now a highly sought-after Bible teacher, she knows a thing or two about playing a role. But, she says, all of us play roles nearly all of the time, and it's exhausting. We walk into a room, figure out who we're supposed to be in this context, slip into character, and say the lines we know we should say. We become someone else. Maybe we tell ourselves it's some version of us, but deep down we know this inauthentic role is not what God wants for our lives - and it's not what we want either.
With fascinating personal stories and sharp insight into human nature, Allison Allen calls each woman to drop the brave act and step into the role of a lifetime - being her real self, no matter what the critics might say. She gives women permission to talk about, rather than around, the things they feel, freeing them to step out of the shadows and into the light of God's true calling.

Just the book I needed!
This book has truly inspired me. I am glad I finished reading it at the start of the new year, 2018. I believe God wants me to seek him more and finish a variety of things I have been working on. Allison's message is based her own personal experiences and they are truly amazing. Her communication skills are outstanding and I couldn't wait to read each new chapter. I feel renewed in my faith and eager to accomplished all that God calls me to do!
Wonderful. Every Woman Will Be Edified and Encouraged by this Book.
I loved this book. I have had the privilege to sit under Allison in Bible study at our church as she has taught original material, and those studies have been a blessing to me. When I began this book, I was excited to discover that Allison writes just like she teaches in person. The entire book feels like a conversation with a wise, dear friend--engaging, comfortable, familiar, warm, and encouraging.
Allison is deeply in tune with the Holy Spirit, and her authenticity in Christ is evident on every page. It's clear that her heart is to share with readers a message of encouragement and hope that draws from personal experiences as an actor, is rooted in Scripture, and is born out of prayer. This mixture of anecdote, exhortation, and Scripture makes for a book that is as edifying as it is enjoyable to read. Sometimes authors run the risk of overusing a metaphor to communicate a point, and I worried a bit that that might happen here with the acting metaphor, especially since I have no personal experience with that world. Thankfully, Allison adroitly knows when to press in and when to step back.
Any woman who feels like the Lord has more for her--even if that more is going from great to greater still--will find value and wisdom in this book.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest evaluation.
Hold your head high, and go boldly into the spotlight designed by God, just for you, for His glory.
I was given a pre-release of this book and asked to give an honest review. I am still working my way through it, but I already identify strongly with the point of view Allison presents in the book. So many times, we can lose our sense of self amidst the wash of what everybody else is doing.
