"There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents." - Luke 15:10
Is there any occupation as profitable or rewarding as that of winning souls for Christ? It is a desirable employment, and the threshold for entry into this profession is set at a level any Christian may achieve - you must only love the Lord God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and your fellow man as yourself. This work is for all genuine Christians, of all walks of life. This is for you, fellow Christian.
Be prepared to be inspired, challenged, and convicted. Be prepared to weep, for the Holy Spirit may touch you deeply as you consider your coworkers, your neighbors, the children you know, and how much the Lord cares for these individuals. But you will also be equipped. Charles Spurgeon knew something about winning souls, and he holds nothing back as he shares biblical wisdom and practical application regarding the incredible work the Lord wants to do through His people to reach the lost.
    About the author:
Charles Haddon (C. H.) Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British Baptist preacher. He started preaching at age 17 and quickly became famous. He is still known as the "Prince of Preachers" and frequently had more than 10,000 people present to hear him preach at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. His sermons were printed in newspapers, translated into many languages, and published in many books.

    Publisher's Summary:
A poetic portrait of faith, futility, and the joy of this mortal life.
In this astoundingly unique audiobook, best-selling author N. D. Wilson reminds each of us that to truly live, we must recognize that we are dying. Every second we create more of our past - more decisions, more breathing, more love and more loathing, all of it slides by into the gone as we race to grab at more moments, at more memories made and already fading.
We are all authors, creators of our own pasts, of the books that will be our lives. We stare at the future or obsess about the present, but only the past has been set in stone, and we are the ones setting it. When we race across the wet concrete of time without purpose, without goals, without laughter and love and sacrifice, then we fail in our mortal moment. We race toward our inevitable ends without artistry and without beauty.
All of us must pause and breathe. See the past, see your life as the fruit of providence and thousands of personal narratives. What led to you? You did not choose where to set your feet in time. You choose where to set them next.
Then, we must see the future, not just to stare into the fog of distant years but to see the crystal choices as they race toward us in this sharp foreground we call the present. We stand in the now. God says create. Live. Choose. Shape the past. Etch your life in stone, and what you make will be forever.

Great glimpse of what a well-lived life
N.D. Wilson is an incredible writer. I have enjoyed his fiction and this was my first non-fiction book of his and I was not disappointed. A well written book by a man who knows the Lord. Many times his story was freakishly like my story. Thanks N.D. I was moved and blessed by this book.
Think about your life, your story
As he did in "Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl," N.D. Wilson takes us on a wonderful word-picture ride through life, death, and all things between. He has a great knack for turning a phrase that makes you think deeply about what he's telling you. By telling you stories about himself and some of his ancestors, he tells you why the Bigger Story matters and about the Author of that story.
This can be a quick read, but it is one that should be lingered on and savored.
An absolute gem. You will not regret reading.
I was gripped at the first chapter. And then throughout the rest of the book. The perspective on life is vital, but spoken of far too little. So when a book does convey it so well, you want to cling to it. To appropriate it. To make it yours. To share it with the world. To shout "This is life! This is how it is meant to be lived. Meant to be spent!"
I've recommended this book to several friends.
This is undoubtedly one of my most favorite books ever. (I rarely read fiction.) This book is real-life. It's full of stories and real people. It's slightly philosophical, definitely Biblical, insightful, wise, fun, and witty. It confronts the reader with a most basic truth about life -moments vanish, and so will we. How we choose to live those moments as they unfold before us tells a bigger story than we often realize. I would hope that this book would appeal to more than just the deeper thinkers among us because it's so honest and well written. Love of family and gratitude for each one is evident. I'm now thinking about God in the details again. I saw a recommendation for this book in Christianity Today.

Wonderful. This explains the higher stages of spiritual growth in detail, insofar as that is possible. Most practically, de Sales gives necessary warnings, cautions, and advice to grow further. For those of us searching for "more" because we've read Teresa and John and Ignatius and...well you get the idea...but still seek more detail, more clarity, because we are experiencing things that are alluded to in the others, but not helpfully clarified, St. Francis de Sales is your saint. God bless the man for writing it and thank you Lord!!! for the english translation in my century! On the other hand, if you are looking for a comforting, easy, read that lulls one into a state of feeling good about himself, this is not the book.
    Hmm...
I bought this for a church study group, but I really can't get into it. Maybe because he is not my favorite saint. Time to join another group, I guess.
In Depth Study of the Love of God
This is a very comprehensive writing on the Love of God. "Masterful" is a proper description. For those inclined to seriously consider the love of God, St. Francis de Sales has given his deep insights. This book has always been considered a Spiritual Classic.

Encounter God in a fresh way!
This book is great for anyone who wants to go deeper in their relationship with God and position themselves for encounters with God. The testimonies are so encouraging and open your eyes further to the wonders and grace of God and His desire for his children to experience Him daily. As well as bringing a fresh awakening to my soul, I was personally encouraged by Michal Annâs chapter on âbeing changed by His Presenceâ. Whilst reading this chapter the Spirit spoke to me and made me realize how often I have given into intimidation without even recognizing it and have become more confident and bolder in the Spirit since then:
âWhen we are on the verge of a breakthrough, the enemy will attempt to come by surprise; he will try to intimidate us to make us settle for less than the total victory that we have yet to see. We need to press through, confront our enemy of intimidation, and allow the Holy Spiritâs boldness to come upon us like the light shining through that gemstone.â (p.

What would you like to know about the Qur'an and its relationship to the Bible?
Written in beautifully poetic and rhythmic language, the Qur'an comprises 114 suras ("chapters"). To Christians, its structure can at first seem unusual, and indeed, the Qur'an differs from our scriptures in fundamental ways. As you study the Qur'an, you will gain a deep appreciation for its striking differences from the Bible and the importance of this religious text revered by one-point-seven billion Muslims around the world.
In this superb course, you will receive a general introduction to the Qur'an, paying particular attention to its relationship with the Bible. Prof. Gabriel Reynolds, a scholar of Islamic studies at Notre Dame, guides you through the beautiful language, fascinating history, and varied interpretations of the Qur'an. By embarking on this exploration, you will more deeply understand Islam and its conversation with Christianity.
The first part introduces you to the life of Muhammad, the literary qualities of the Qur'an, and its historical context. After looking closely at the themes of the Qur'an, you will explore its portrayals of Jesus and other biblical figures, as well as how Christianity has interacted with it throughout history. Then, you will look at academic controversies and traditional Islamic teachings on the Qur'an. Finally, you will examine how Muslims approach the Qur'an in the modern world.

Draws a lot of fine lines in calm, scholarly voice
As a professor, I really enjoy listening to another (delivered live especially) who is not only well informed, but impassioned with the subject. Many questions are answered here. Have there been different versions of the Quran? To what specific time and place do we trace the one regarded as authoritative across the Muslim world? (That's a surprise -- identified as rather startlingly recent, in the 1920s, and a compilation arrived at by a committee in Cairo?) What is the Quran's view of the physical nature and arrangement of God, of paradise, of the universe? What does the Quran actually say about thinking of God as a father, of Jesus as God's son, or otherwise? About the trinity? This professor if I heard correctly, is associated with Notre Dame University and this audio source, presumably with the Catholic Church? But whatever the correct background is, for everyone, I would be reassuring that the approach is overall the finest serious, mature, disciplined scholarship. This professor is a speaker and scholar of Arabic, and all the source material. This is not a polemic designed to rile up the masses -- it is dispassionately (and passionately, but in a scholarly way) surveying what the respective sources actually say. I daresay there is plenty here the street-level Jihadist probably has little inkling of. I also appreciate a professor so well versed in the subject and in speaking that the flow of talk is clear as a bell and without the "uh," "ahh" fumbling stuff I find so distracting. The delivery is letter-perfect, essentially error-free, and conducive to learning. This won't be the only source I'll hear, but it is the best I have heard so far.

    Publisher's Summary:
God is everywhere and always with us. So why don't we experience his presence more? Life is full of distractions, and our 24/7 news cycles and social media drown out the voice of God. It's hard to discern God's presence amid the hubbub. But experiencing God is not just for the super-spiritual or ultra-mature. Every Christian can learn to cultivate a greater awareness of God in the everyday. Ken Boa offers a contemporary guide to practicing the presence of God. Using biblical foundations, living and historical examples, and evidence from neuroscience, Ken reveals how we can walk with God and abide in his presence. We need to rethink how we use our time and technology to make room for God, to train ourselves with new habits that deepen our awareness of God. This book offers not a magical technique but dozens of practical exercises and disciplines that help us draw close to God even in the midst of our cacophonous modern culture. Practicing God's presence is not just for the professionals. It's for ordinary people like us. And the more we live in God's presence, the greater our abiding peace and joy.

    Boa's Best Work Yet!
If you are already a fan of Dr Ken Boa, you are going to love this book. If you haven't read any of his other 60+ published books, this will be a great introduction to his insight into knowing God. As an Anglican Priest, I can easily confess that "Life in the Presence of God" has taken me to places spiritually I've only heard about but never really understood. This may be the pinnacle of a lifetime of writing for Boa. Please see the following excerpt for a taste of the experience.
"If we donât treasure Godâs presence, we wonât see the need to rid ourselves of sin. But if we have tasted what life is like when we walk closely with him, weâll give up anything else, because weâll know he is worth it. ( Jesus talked about this; see Matthew 13:44â46.) When we grasp the sweetness of life in his presence, weâll not only be able to throw off sin with more ease, but weâll view sin more like God doesâhating itâbecause it stands in the way of the thing we want most: fellowship with him."
I can't recommend this book highly enough.
    Life Changing Moment By Moment
Finally! One of the few books that can take the mystery out of walking intimately with God in our everyday life by providing very down to earth practical insights into the beginning of living eternity now with our Heavenly Father. The analogies, illustrations, examples, and stories that Dr. Boa uses to drive home his points make it comprehensibly real of what it means to experience God in this noisy, chaotic, social media driven world. Providing a better understanding of who we are and how God has wired us lays the foundation for understanding the struggles we have with sin, suffering, and our own preconceived perspectives of our time here on earth. Tough Questons Answered About the Goodness of God
Tough Questions Answered About the Goodness of God
Bill Johnson, the senior leader of Bethel Baptist Church in Redding, California and bestselling author, answers the toughest and most common questions about the goodness of God in his book âIs God Really Good?â
This book is based on the result of a series of interview questions relative to how this question is answered impacts the faith and life of the believer. Theme based chapters include questions on the subjects of:
    â Your Destiny
    â Intimacy with God
    â Disease and Pain
    â Evangelism
    â Dealing with Disappointment
Other chapters look at Godâs goodness in the Old Testament, grace, poverty, the power of hope, and many other important biblical faith-building foundational truths from the scriptures.
Pastor Bill Johnson draws from his rich heritage in ministry in responding to each of these probing questions. A unique feature of this book is the confident relaxed conversational style and heartfelt passion that define Pastor Billâs walk with the Lord. I felt I was in the room participating in a discussion with a small group of friends in a home Bible study, comfortable in the presence of the spirit of the Lord in our midst.
âIs God Really Good?â will resonate with Pastorâs Christian counselors, church leaders, and parents, who will find the book to be a valuable resource for hurting parishioners, discouraged or disillusioned Christians, and troubled teens.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review purposes. The opinions expressed are my own.
    Not a good sequel
I thought this was a full size sequel to the God is Good book, but itâs a printed interview of Bill Johnson in tiny book form. I love all of Billâs work, but the description for this one was a bit misleading.

    Publisher's Summary:
"In my first seminary class, we were asked to introduce ourselves and say why we enrolled. I'll never forget what one student said:
'My denomination wants me to have an M.Div., but once they see I can grow a big church, I don't think they'll make me finish the program.'"
The priorities of this future pastor were startling, but he's not alone in them. In the years since that class, author and minister Skye Jethani has seen more and more pastors swallowed by the celebrity syndrome.
Not long ago, ministers were among the most trusted and admired people in our culture. But not anymore. A 2013 study from Gallop revealed that Americans' admiration for clergy has reached an all-time low. That, taken with reduced trust of institutional religion overall, makes it easy to see why ministers feel insecure about their calling.
In response to this trend, some pastors have looked to emulate those who are praised by the culture - business leaders, entertainers, and social activists. This has led to a new understanding of what a minister should be. We've turned away from viewing our pastors as shepherds, and now expect them to be celebrities.
Immeasurable will help ministers recognize the cultural forces shaping their view of the calling, and then reimagine what faithful church leaders can look like in the 21st century. Through short essays and reflections on the pastor's soul and skills, this book will help prospective pastors explore their calling to ministry, and it will help veteran pastors reframe their vision for the work.
Drawing on cultural dynamics, personal stories, and his own experience working in a church and with church leaders, Skye Jethani will address matters like ambition, anger, community, consumerism, fame, health, justice, platform, preaching, rest, simplicity, success, vision, and more.
There are endless resources to help pastors do the practical work of ministry, but there are far fewer that speak to the pastor's soul and spirit. Immeasurable provides affirmation and encouragement for church leaders faithfully serving God. It commends the true work of ministry - shepherding, teaching, encouraging - while redefining what we mean by success in ministry. It's a book church leaders can return to again and again for insight and inspiration.

Such a breath of fresh air amidst the fog in the church today
I truly appreciate Skye's honest commentary and humility in this book. I plan on buying a case of these books and sharing with friends and pastors I care about. Definitely worth the read or listen. Not since Soul Survivor by Yancey have I felt peace amidst the struggle of "Church Inc." and its members
