On the surface Chuck Colson had everything but underneath his life was empty. It was only when he accepted Christ the emptiness was filled and he truly began to live.

My wife and I spent five years on a missionary team in Brazil. Our first two years felt fruitless and futile. More often than not I went home frustrated. So we asked God for another plan.

We prayed and read the Epistles. We especially focused on Galatians. When I compared our gospel message with Paul’s, I saw a difference. His was high-octane good news. Mine was soured legalism. So, as a team, we resolved to focus on the gospel. I did my best to proclaim forgiveness of sins and resurrection from the dead.

We saw an immediate change. We baptized forty people in twelve months. Quite a few for a church of sixty members! God wasn’t finished with us yet. We just needed to put God’s plan in place. Why don’t you ask God for his plan?

Season 3, Episode 18

In this episode, Michael and Zach continue their series on the Septuagint by asking how much of the famous origin story is history—and how much is legend. They begin with the Letter of Aristeas, explaining why scholars generally regard it as a later pseudepigraphal work rather than an eyewitness account from Ptolemy II’s court. The discussion then separates the likely historical core—a Greek translation of the Torah produced in third-century BC Alexandria—from the story’s more elaborate details, including the seventy-two translators, the royal banquet, and the exact seventy-two-day timetable. Michael and Zach also examine competing theories for why the Septuagint was produced in the first place. From there, they trace how the legend grew through Philo and Irenaeus, each adding more miraculous elements to the story. The episode closes by showing that “the Septuagint” was never one single translation, but a collection of Greek biblical books produced over centuries by different translators.
