Dr. John explores the meaning of Pentecost — the Jewish Feast of Weeks — and the momentous events of Acts 2, where the Spirit descends with wind, fire, and tongues. He explains what made this day genuinely new compared to the Spirit's Old Testament activity: a fuller indwelling, a deeper understanding of Christ, and unprecedented power to draw people to salvation, evidenced by 3,000 conversions on a single day.
Rediscovering the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is God, fully equal with the Father and Son, yet he's the member of the Trinity most Christians know least about. In this 10-message series, Dr. John sets out to change that, tracing the Spirit's work from creation through the Old Testament, Pentecost, salvation, and beyond. By the end, you'll understand what you already have in the Spirit, and why it changes everything.

There are people today who claim that God has a split personality. They say that in Old Testament times, God was vengeful and full of judgment, but in the New Testament He is gracious and merciful. What do you think? Did God change? Did He become more loving after Jesus came to earth? Consider that with John MacArthur in his study titled Without Excuse.

Consider Elijah’s pronouncement of judgment on Ahab: “[God] says, ‘I am going to bring disaster on you. I will wipe out your descendants…because you have aroused my anger and have caused Israel to sin’” (1 Kings 21:21-22 NIV).
This solemn prophecy shook Ahab. “He tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and fasted” (1 Kings 21:27). God responded to this gesture of humility by postponing the penalty of killing all Ahab’s sons.
Years later the seventy remaining descendants of Ahab died by the sword of King Jehu. God sends them message after message, prophet after prophet, yet they slay the innocent and take what is not theirs to take. They forget what sustains them, and in the end they perish at their own folly.
