In this week’s edition of Shire Network News, the official podcast of Silent Running, Our Man in London reports that Tony Blair is apparently taking advice from Scott Burgess, Harry and a few other bloggers on how to handle Jihadi inciters.
We go to Baghdad to speak to Omar, from Iraq the Model, about blogging from a war zone, and why what you see on your TV screen is most assuredly not the full picture.
As always we bring you the Full of Crap Report from Laurence Simon, at the end of which I practically beg him to get me a gig on the much bigger and more popular IMAO Podcast. It’s true, I have no shame, and there are no depths to which I will not sink in order to get some fame. What I really want to do eventually is direct though…
And finally we travel to the land of leprechauns, jigs, shamrocks, and…uh…kneecappings. Mick Fealty, the man behind the essential Northern Ireland blog/news portal Slugger O’Toole joins us to talk about the IRA‘s announcement it’s giving up it’s “armed struggle”, and what this means for the future of the province. Anything that means less media coverage for Ted Kennedy’s bloviating is fine with me.
In this week’s edition of Shire Network News, the official podcast of Silent Running, Our Man in London brings us up to date on how the cops cornered and tasered one of the tube bombing suspects only hours after a particularly clueless Muslim cleric in Birmingham insisted there was no evidence Muslims were involved. Andrew says moderate Muslims are really starting to make their voices heard, and the local (Muslim) MP has called for the cleric to be sacked.
As always we bring you the Full of Crap Report from Laurence Simon, and our feature interview this week is with Egyptian blogger Big Pharaoh, who along with his buddy Egyptian Sandmonkey responded to the Sharm El-Sheikh bombings by staging an anti-terrorist demonstration in Cairo. An anti-terrorist demonstration in Cairo!
Okay, it was relatively small, and they were eventually moved on by the police, and bureaucracy appears to have stymied their efforts to hold an even bigger protest at Al Azhar Park, but the Pharaoh says there’s a lot of changes coming in the Middle East, and if you listen to this podcast you’ll hear about some of them. For gods sake don’t miss his ringing personal endorsement of a certain leading Anglospheric political figure!
Oh yeah, some guy called Kiwi Bob shows up and talks about some blog he writes for. It’s called Silent Running or something. I’ve never heard of it, personally.
In this week’s edition of Shire Network News, the official podcast of Silent Running, a report from Our Man in London on the latest bombings, Ted Lapkin from the Australian/Israel Jewish Affairs Committee on the sale of books advocating Jihad in Muslim bookstores in Australia, the Full of Crap Report from Laurence Simon, and an interview with a right-wing Jewish woman who edits a major New Zealand student magazine on why classical liberalism is “the new black”.

The 8th episode of Shire Network News was first broadcast on July 10th 2005, immediately after the multiple suicide bombings across London on the morning of July 7th by a gang of Islamic terrorists. The entire episode discusses this including the first appearance on SNN by Andrew Ian Dodge who became a regular contributor. Andrew passed away from cancer in 2014, may his memory be a blessing.
In this special edition of Shire Network News, there will be no blog news. Humour is inappropriate just now. We have a special extended interview with London-based blogger Andrew Ian Dodge, and the Full of Crap Report from Laurence Simon.
Also, there is a special introduction which hearkens back, not to the dark days of 1940, but to an even earlier episode of English history.
Blogs mentioned include Cold Fury, Dean Esmay, Harry’s Place and Samizdata.

Thanks to the amazing archive.org, we have the original show notes from this episode, as broadcast on 5th June 2005. This features the first ever “Full of Crap Report” from Laurence Simon. Got to love this episode: Global Warming makes an appearance in this episode too, because themes.

Aussie Dave’s interview in particular (around 17 mins in) covers aspects of #FakeNews he was seeing all the way back then.
