Laodicea: The Lukewarm Church | Revelation 3:14–22

The seven churches series ends here — Laodicea, one of only two churches in Revelation to receive no commendation from Christ at all.

This is the letter to a church that had everything and needed nothing — until Christ tells them otherwise. We trace the real history behind it: a wealthy city that rebuilt itself after an earthquake without Rome's help, a water supply that was neither refreshing nor healing but simply useless, and a slow drift — just one generation — from adding things alongside Christ to no longer feeling any need for him at all.

We unpack why "I will spit you out" is really the Greek word for vomit, why Jesus answers a business-obsessed city in business language, and why the most severely rebuked church in the series is handed the highest promise of all seven: a shared throne with Christ himself. And we close at the door — Christ standing outside his own church, knocking.
