Danielle Westcott was one of only a few women in her trade when she joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a Boatswain. Despite the “old school” attitudes and male-dominated atmosphere at the time, she kept pushing forward.
She remustered to Medic and attended civilian paramedic school. She was eventually medically released from the CAF due to a spinal injury and a PTSD diagnosis.
Despite her physical limitations, Danielle still likes to channel her inner Goggins at the gym, and has recently found a passion for archery. She hopes to compete at the next Invictus Games.

This episode is a reading of the article "The Legend of Chief Shannon Kent" written by Marty Skovlund Jr. for Coffee or Die Magazine, published May 13, 2019. When I first read the article, I felt really drawn to Shannon's Story. I found myself looking up more articles about her and thinking about how rare it is to hear about women like this. I think more people should hear Shannon's story, and this is my way of paying tribute.
