The Best of the Worst  With Forever Evil wrapping up and DC’s Villains month over, Adam and Nick thought it was the perfect time to talk about the most interesting villains in comics. We picked a group of villains who represent the different styles of villainy. Motivations range from the classic plotting to take over the world to more sympathetic goals like wanting to save a loved one. What makes a protagonist last for decades? We answer that question by examining some of the most important bad guys in comic book history. http://www.shortboxpodcast.com/podcasts/sbpceps047.mp3 iTunes listeners: HELP US OUT! Still Not Ginger! Like many of you, we watched the live BBC special announcing that Peter Capaldi would take over after Matt Smith as the 12th Doctor on Doctor Who during the Christmas Special later this year. Has there ever been a live global announcement of a new actor coming on to a TV show before? It felt just so epic! How about those montages with Matt Smith? FEELINGS you guys!! Initial reactions are all over the place. Most who have followed Peter Capaldi’s work are extremely happy because he is a very capable actor with a ton of range. Lots of conversations are taking place on Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook about gender, age, and skin color. The conversations continue but we want to remind you about a different conversation…one that took place a few months ago when we discussed why we love Doctor Who.  Check out this episode of Doctor Who as Nick, Adam and decades long Whovian, Jake discuss why Doctor Who matters and why you should care about regenerations, companions, and aliens in rubber suits. http://www.shortboxpodcast.com/podcasts/sbpcepsrewindwho.mp3

To get ready for Man of Steel, we’re bringing back our Superman Movie Special, Episode #19.  Adam, Nick and guest Mikey Wood are back to talk about the REAL Superman trilogy: Superman, Superman II, and Superman Returns….and maybe just a little bit of Superman III and IV. Just the tiniest bit. Listen here: http://www.shortboxpodcast.com/podcasts/Shortboxrewind1.mp3 The Superman movies directed by Richard Donnor (Superman I and the edited “Richard Donnor Cut” of Superman II) and the 2006 movie: Superman Returns (directed by Bryan Singer and inspired by Donnor’s vision). Superman I is the benchmark that made Super Hero movies have been tested against since it’s 1978 release. This episode is SUPER! Why is the first Superman from 1978 still considered one of the best super hero movies of all-time? Why aren’t movies like this being written today? Why didn’t Superman Returns launch the Superman franchise again in 2006? These questions will be answered by three big Superman movie fans.

Sometimes a good guy goes bad. Or rather, a protagonist becomes an antagonist. Villains become heroes more often then the other way but there are times where some of the best go down a dark path. Adam and Nick discuss a few notable twists in the lives of the best heroes. Some of these number in our lists of favorite comic stories of all-time. Check out why we think these characters made these changes and why they are important stories. http://www.shortboxpodcast.com/podcasts/sbpceps040.mp3 Get Free Comics
