Jon Jost has been an independent filmmaker since the 1960s. He is self-taught and has directed, filmed, and edited his own work for decades. Films include Speaking Directly, Last Chants for a Slow Dance, Angel City, Slow Moves, Bell Diamond, Rembrandt Laughing, Sure Fire, All The Vermeers in New York, Frameup, The Bed You Sleep In, Swimming in Nebraska, and Coming to Terms, amongst others. At the time of this recording Jost is in India.

Joe Bussiere is a composer. He and I recently collaborated on “Graduation” (2024). The project originates from a 34 year old found VHS tape of a high school graduation. The images from the tape were heavily modified using only analogue methods. Bussiere’s composition draws from the sounds found on the original tape, turning them into music. The video deals with memory and visual artifacts, both which decay over time.

Leighton Pierce is an experimental filmmaker. His current work uses a “broken” mpeg technique that he has created. His films have dense soundscapes which demand a good sound system or headphones. Longer works include “White Ash” and “Deck” which are made up of thousands of still images.
