Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between a girl who was raised by wolves (San), and the people of Iron Town. San, her family, and the other forest dwellers seek to defend the forest, but Lady Eboshi, the Emperor, and the people who work for them seek to destroy it and reap its resources for their own benefit.

Here's a taste of what's on our patreon! For our Magical Girl Matcha series, we dove into the first two episodes ofTokyo Mew Mew (New). In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review the beloved Studio Ghibli film, Kiki’s Delivery Service! Kiki flies away to a brand new town all on her own to begin her training as a witch for one full year. While she didn’t get the warmest of welcomes to her new town, Asono, a local baker, allows her to live above her bakery in exchange for some help around the shop. A local boy named Tombo is fascinated in her ability to fly, and tries his best to befriend her. Kiki decides to start up a delivery service to utilize her ability to fly, but her powers begin to suddenly dwindle as time goes on. She struggles to find her inspiration to be the best witch she can be.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika discuss episodes ten through twelve of Nina the Starry Bride! In episode ten, Nina tries to convince the king of Galgada to leave Fortna’s fate in her hands. She goes so far as to insult the king and enter the tournament arena, where Set and Azure come to her aid. In episode eleven, Set is confined to the white wing after striking an unsanctioned duel with Azure. Hikami sends Nina to meet with Set with poisoned meade and cookies, and Set falls ill. In episode twelve, Nina is accused of trying to murder Set, but Hikami makes a drastic sacrifice for her to ensure her safety. Giana and Chika also sit down with voice actor Jill Harris, who voiced Nina in the English Dub of Nina the Starry Bride!

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and Dennis from the Vintage Anime Club podcast discuss episodes seven through nine of Nina the Starry Bride! In episode seven, after Set rescues Nina, the two spend the night together in the forest. Nina rescues the cub of the tiger who attacked her. When they arrive in Galgada, Nina makes quite the first impression on Set’s brothers. In episode eight, it has been decided that whichever prince wins over Nina, he will ascend to the throne of Galgada. The princes try to woo Nina in their own way. Set comes to her aid when his brother Yur threatens her. In episode nine, Azure arrives in Galgada under the guise of a Fortunan messenger. Nina internally struggles with her feelings for both Azure and Set.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana, Chika, and Ravengriim discuss episodes one through three of Nina the Starry Bride! In episode four, Nina and Azure’s feelings for one another deepen. In order to protect him, Nina decides to leave for Galgada to fulfill her duty and become their queen.  In episode five, Nina arrives in Bastia and tries to win over the cruel Prince Set. Things escalate as Nina defends Anne, who works for Prince Set, for “stealing” when an aggressive guard captain accuses her, and Prince Set slices Nina across the chest. Despite the dreariness of her circumstances, Nina chooses to smile and steel her resolve. In episode six, Nina wins over the staff in Bastia by putting the aggressive guard captain in his place while Prince Set is absent. The prince unexpectedly kisses Nina despite being hostile towards her thus far. Later, Nina’s carriage falls off of a cliff, but luckily she and Set’s bird, also named Nina, survive.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana, Chika, and Avary aka Kyoruyeye discuss the film Fruits Basket Prelude. Kyoko Katsunoma, a struggling teen with a poor relationship with her parents and a history of gang involvement, meets Katsuya Honda, a student teacher on a day she decides to attend school. He sees her pain and anger and gives a voice to it, and the two bond and become close quickly. Their love story unfolds on screen, ultimately bringing Tohru Honda into the world, but it ends abruptly with Katsuya’s unexpected death, and the impact it has on Kyoko and Tohru is immeasurable. Get ready for a heaping portion of hot fudge!
