Young drivers continue to be over-represented in road trauma statistics, and also have a significantly higher risk of death relative to the number of kilometres they drive. 

This has prompted calls from experts and communities around Australia to implement intensive driver education courses in the secondary school curriculum, and to introduce passenger restrictions for P-plate drivers.
