This week Arden speaks with Prof. Rob Stewart Professor of Psychiatry at Kings College London. A recipient of the Wellcome Fellowship Rob’s recent work has focused on Epidemiology and clinical Informatics alongside later life mental disorders. Rob is the clinical lead for Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) a tool which allows researchers to access front line clinical data for their research.
Arden speaks with Rob about how the ability to access data in the right format is crucial for his work. What he thinks the early break throughs are likely to be and the technology solutions he’s most excited about in the future.

This week Arden speaks with Kumar Jacob, Founder & CEO of Mindwave Ventures. Kumar has a career spent in technology and gaming, as well as a stint as a non-executive of South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. It was this experience which exposed Kumar to the lack of technology provision in the Mental Health world. Not one to sit still Kumar decided to address this shortage of innovation by creating Mindwave Ventures a company which focuses on creating tools for the NHS, Charities and private providers looking to cerate meaningful solutions in the space.
Alongside working with Thalamos, one of their key projects is their open source Personal Health Record which they are building collaboratively with a number of NHS Trusts across the UK.
Kumar and Arden discuss why he first got interested in technology in mental health, what he things the future holds, as well as some of the positives and negatives of bring innovation to the NHS.

Andrew is at the forefront of research into depression and genomics. He’s a Professor with the Division of Psychiatry at Edinburgh University a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatry and Chair of Generation Scotland expert working group for Psychiatric disorders. Andrew is also this years host for the MQ Mental Health’s Data Science meeting held in Edinburgh this week.
Andrew and Arden discuss why he was first interested in Psychiatry and in turn why he decided to focus on research. We also speak about the ethics associated with gathering and sharing of the data researchers require to be better able to understand the causes and cures of Mental Ill-Health.
