When our society sends out the message that there's something wrong with being shy - from school days, being forced to raise a hand, to the workplace, where not shouting over people in a meeting can mean not being heard at all - many shy people retreat, and we miss out on their perspectives and ideas. But why wouldn't you want to hear the contribution from the person who thinks more than they speak and has been carefully considering the issue before offering an opinion?
