Welcome to the very first episode of Community Matters, a new podcast hosted by Randolph County Presiding Commissioner Sid Conklin.

In this inaugural episode, Sid introduces the purpose behind the podcast: keeping Randolph County residents informed about what is happening in their communities, talking about the issues that affect everyday life, and highlighting what can happen when people work together.

Sid reflects on accomplishments from his first term, including the community effort to stop the proposed waste basin, the response to the closure of Missouri Highway 3, and the county's adoption of a senior property tax credit. He also discusses the continuation of the countywide sales tax and how those funds support county facilities and essential services.

The episode also highlights work to improve emergency communications throughout Randolph County. Through collaboration between the County Commission, City of Moberly, Randolph County Ambulance District and rural fire districts, ARPA funding is being used to modernize the countywide communications network and improve coordination between firefighters, law enforcement and EMS during emergencies.

At the heart of the episode is a simple idea: community matters because people matter, and progress happens when people get involved and work together.
