From Masjid Raheem – (Makeni, Sierra Leone)
Bid'ah—introducing new practices into the religion of Islam—is a dangerous path that leads away from the pure Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). This khutbah delivers a powerful warning against the dangers of innovation in the deen, reminding us that anyone who introduces new things in worship without the approval of Allah and His Messenger will have that act rejected.
The imam explains that the religion of Allah is complete and perfected. Nothing needs to be added, and nothing should be taken away. The Prophet (PBUH) warned us clearly: "Whoever introduces into this affair of ours something that is not from it, it will be rejected" (Bukhari & Muslim). This means that even a good intention cannot justify an innovation—if the worship was not prescribed by Allah and His Prophet, it will not be accepted.
Drawing from the Qur'an and Sunnah, this sermon calls us to cling firmly to the way of the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions, to reject newly invented practices in the religion, and to ensure that everything we do in worship is rooted in authentic Islamic sources. A timely reminder that the safest path is the one that follows the Sunnah—nothing more, nothing less.

Trust (amanah) is not merely something we hold—it is something we become. This khutbah explores the deep Islamic obligation of trustworthiness and the reputation it builds. The imam reminds us that a believer should carry a name so trustworthy that people feel safe entrusting him with their wealth, their secrets, and their affairs.
He calls on us to examine our dealings: Are we honest in our transactions? Do we keep our promises? Do we return what is placed in our care—whether it be money, property, or even a confidence shared in private?
The khutbah emphasizes that trustworthiness is a sign of faith itself. When people see our honesty, patience, and integrity, they see a reflection of the character the Prophet (PBUH) was known for—Al-Amin, the Trustworthy. A powerful reminder that our reputation is not built by what we say about ourselves, but by how faithfully we carry the trust others place in us.

This khutbah draws powerful lessons from the story of Prophet Yusuf (AS)—a tale of betrayal, patience, and ultimate triumph. The imam reflects on the reality of family conflicts, the pain of being wronged by those closest to you, and the importance of maintaining trust in Allah through every trial. He reminds us that just as Yusuf was tested by his own brothers, we too may face hardships from within our own homes. Yet the true test lies in how we respond—with patience, forgiveness, and unwavering faith. The sermon concludes with a sobering reminder that every soul will be held accountable for every deed, and that Allah's justice is certain, even when it seems delayed.
