    Phoenix — Governor Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services (A-D-H-S) today announced a state-operated COVID-19 vaccination site in the Phoenix metropolitan area’s East Valley, avoiding the closure of a successful mass vaccination site and further expanding the state’s nationally recognized model for speeding up vaccine administration.   • NAU Astronomer on Team Confirming Orbit of Most Distant Object Ever Observed in our Solar System

    A team of astronomers, including associate professor Chad Trujillo of Northern Arizona University’s Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science, have confirmed a planetoid that is almost four times farther from the Sun than Pluto, making it the most distant object observed in our solar system. The planetoid, which has been nicknamed “Farfarout,” was first detected in 2018, and the team has now collected enough observations to pin down its orbit. The Minor Planet Center has now given it the official designation of 2018 A-G-37.   • Pile Burning Planned February 16th – 19th on the Bradshaw Ranger District

    Fire Managers on the Bradshaw Ranger District plan to continue burning piles within the Prescott Basin, including areas around Senator Highway, Copper Basin, Walker Road, and Deering Park, pending favorable weather conditions. Ignitions will start on Tuesday, February 16th and continue through Friday, February 19th, if conditions remain favorable. Fire personnel continued to monitor previous ignitions from last week's total of approximately 105 acres. Smoke impacts are expected to be light in the surrounding areas.
