Significance – The 14 Inch Journey With Scott Schilling | The Power House 005

Listen Later

Welcome to the fourth installment of the Power House Podcast! This episode features a legendary peak performance expert. A personal significance warrior committed to providing inspired answers for some of today’s toughest challenges. He’s been around the TV circuit, on podcasts, and help consulting and trainings with over 35 years of experience. So, what’s his goal? To help you grow professionally, personally, financially, and spiritually. He’s presented at over 2,000 live events – trust me, Scott knows how to work the stage. And speaking of stages, he’s shared one with Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and First Lady Laura Bush.

Moment of Change

Scott has been shifting away from traditional models of success and coming into his own as a significance expert. He looks at peaks and valleys in life and sees them as a part of a learning process – the process of finding out what is really meaningful to yourself. He’s had good and bad things happen in all seven areas of his life, and has come to accept that the whole range of experiences has made him a better person. A critical turning point for Scott was when he had a stroke in his cerebellum, and miraculously, managed to walk away unscathed. This left him yearning for something deeper than simple success. See, success is simply achieving a goal. Scott strives for significance – that deeper meaning behind the goals you are trying to achieve.

Ultimately Scotts goal for you is to help you live a legacy, not just leave one.

Finding Your Legacy

Have you wondered how to measure your progress on journey to success. Scott finds one of the most helpful questions you can ask yourself is are you looking for fame, or impact? Think about Mother Teresa. Was she looking for fame or impact? Her legacy isn’t a trove of treasure locked away somewhere, she actively lived it. And with that came impact first, and then fame. Your legacy should be what you live, not an accumulation of stuff you pass on when you die.

The 14 Inch Journey

One issue with discovering significance and how to cultivate it comes from not identifying who your trusted resources are. Are you surrounded by yes men and women who only tell you what you want to hear? That kind of community can embiggen one of the biggest barriers to taking the 14 Inch Journey from your head, to your heart. That barrier is your own ego. If fill yourself up with the idea that you’ve already made it, that you’re too awesome to self-reflect then you block yourself from discovering deeper significance. Dig deep into your heart space. Ask yourself what you would change about your life. When you answer truly you may discover the source of your greatest pain. Identifying that is a huge step in finding out how to truly change, and it comes down to the simple power of asking.
