Marcel Beukeboom will discuss geopolitical developments on a European and global scale, tapping into his experience as a climate diplomat. De EU Green Deal is a political gamechanger, with effects far beyond EU borders. First presented at COP25, the climate summit in Madrid in 2019, it created momentum for bolder climate action across the globe, against opposing rhetoric coming from across the Atlantic. 2021 will be a defining year, comparable to 2015 and 1992. Marcel will help you interpret the signals, and point at overarching agenda’s that will affect anyone’s work.

Climate change, loss of biodiversity, water- and resource scarcity, population growth: it all might seem too overwhelming. They are examples of the limits to growth, and our inability to contain or adapt ourselves. Responses to these developments vary from denialism to extreme alarmism. Marcel helps you to find those signals that give hope, and feed your sense of control to do something about it. In the end, so he argues, this is a positive story: we build a world that is green, clean and fair.
