In this episode of the Becoming You podcast, I share what I’ve found to be signs that your inner work is paying off even if you don’t see obvious changes just yet.
Main Topics Discussed:
Our brain is programmed to be so efficient that a change in anything causes disruption. It requires more energy from us when we make changes, and it does not like that!
So, how can you tell if your inner work is actually paying off?
If you’re reading this, you’re probably on the journey of growth. This requires you to do the work of excavating your internal landscape and asking the tough questions:
Why do I play small?
Why do I hold back my truth?
Why don’t I stand up for myself?
Why am I always people-pleasing?
We know that changing our inner reality changes our outer reality. We know we have these unhelpful ways of operating, and so we do the inner work to replace these unproductive beliefs with healthier ones.
But, as I noted earlier, since our mind is resistant to change, how, then, can we tell that this work is actually working?
Sign #1: Things that usually got under your skin before now affect you less
You know that your inner work is beginning to pay off when things that normally cause you to blow up now affect you less intensely.
Whether it’s dealing with annoying co-workers or your loud children, you can learn to be more patient and empathetic so that you can navigate your everyday reality with more grace.
Sign #2: You stop expecting the problematic situation to change, and instead work to change your attitude towards the problem.
Instead of highlighting the problem, make it a habit to find the solution to that problem as soon as possible.
Stop waiting for the problem to go away and start finding ways to shift your mindset or perspective so that you can work with the problem and find the opportunities within.
Sign #3: You are unafraid of having difficult conversations with those around you.
When you do the inner work, people will feel that energy.
It’s a difficult sensation to put into words; but, you know that you are manifesting change within when people around you begin to comment on how you seem “different”—in a good way, of course!
Sign #4: When you wake up in the morning, you feel hopeful and excited about the day ahead.
I can’t tell you how many mornings I’ve woken up to where I’m dreading the day ahead. I lived a lot of years experiencing that horrible feeling.
When you don’t feel connected to anything, when you feel that you lack purpose, then you will naturally feel tiny and insignificant in this world.
Sign #5: You’re constantly hungry to learn more about yourself.
Once you open the can of worms that is personal development, you cannot stop.
There is no end to the journey of growth. There is always further to go and more to learn.
Sign #6: You stop trying to persuade others to see everything your way.
When we’re on the healing journey, we start to realize that the only person we have to convince of anything is ourselves.
We have no control over anyone else.
Sign #7: You stop blaming others and instead ask how you contributed to your own hardships.
You discover that everybody is the creator of your own life, and by extension, there is very little that you can do to influence another person’s life.
