Middle Class Film Class

Silence (2016) review / dir. Martin Scorsese

Listen Later

The gang joins the Tokugawa Shogunate and apostatize this week, as they review the 2016 Martin Scorsese depress-fest, Silence. Set in 1640's Japan, Silence tells the story of two Portuguese Jesuit Padres returning the far-away land, to save a fellow priest rumored to have abandoned his faith, and living amongst the locals. The local ruling government who wishes to keep out all foreign influence and religion, will stop at nothing to keep their cultural norms in tact, including brutal and creatively horrible torture. Historically accurate, and difficult to watch, but beautiful and masterfully made. Watch on Hulu, then listen to the gang give their thoughts.
