Ain’t That Something

Silent Struggles, Urgent Truths: Suicide Awareness Month

Listen Later

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and in this episode of Ain’t That Something, we’re opening up a vital conversation about the realities here in Texas. Suicide affects Black and Brown communities at alarming rates — about 9 in 100,000 Black Texans and nearly 8 in 100,000 Hispanic Texans die by suicide each year. Four out of five suicides are among men, yet young women of color attempt at higher rates. For Black youth, suicide has become the third leading cause of death.

Behind each number is a story, a family, and a future lost too soon. This episode shines a light on those truths while reminding us that talking about suicide doesn’t cause it — it saves lives. Together, we can help break the silence, reduce stigma, and encourage healing.

If you or someone you know is struggling, dial 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You are not alone. 💜

🎧 Tune in and join the conversation — because awareness is the first step toward change.
