  • Behind The Blue Curtain 8/03/2019
    The Ferguson Effect is the idea that increased distrust of police following the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri has led to an increased crime rate (or sometimes increased murder rate) in major U.S. cities. The mechanism usually suggested is that police have less vigorous enforcement in situations that might lead to backlash, though other mechanisms are suggested.
    What happens when a segment of society hijacks the efforts of sincere people working towards Police and Criminal Justice Reform?  Why don’t we call out the people who create or incite incidents to provoke a police reaction for the purpose of wanting to sue the police and collect a check?
    This Saturday August 3 at 11 am (Eastern) 10 am (Central) for Behind the Blue Curtain. We’re going to discuss some of these events.  What is the cost to the decent citizens trying to survive in crime riddle neighborhoods where the police are the only protection they have?
    There are good and bad offices and there are also good and bad citizens who use cell phone videos, social media and a created situation to cash in.  In some cities the pendulum towards police reform has swung too far.  Some cities will not prosecute minor thefts.  Is this fair to the business owner or consumer who now must pay the cost increase?  How far is too far?

  • Who are The Proud Boys? 7/27
    Cassandra McDonald will be stop by and comment in on some foolery, and why some folks are playing Blue Lotto.
    Then we’ll get to my Special Guest:  Wikileaks  says The Proud Boys is a far-right neo-fascist organization which admits only men as members and promotes political violence. It is based in the United States and has a presence in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The group was started in 2016 by Vice Media co-founder and former commentator Gavin McInnes, taking its name from the song "Proud of Your Boy" from the Disney film Aladdin. Proud Boys emerged as part of the alt-right, but in early 2017, McInnes began distancing himself from the alt-right, saying the alt-right's focus is race while his focus is what he defines as "Western values".
