  • Gia and Daveed: The Ones That Got Away; Ep. 1: Tell It To The Rain

Hello all you submarine watchers! We've got a special edition of Silhouettes JB Podcast for you this week! We're introducing a new segment this week called, "The Ones That Got Away," derived from the section in the Playbill from a Dodger Theatrical production of Jersey Boys that lists songs from the Four Seasons catalogue that aren't in the show. Today, we talk about the hit song, "Tell It To The Rain." Composed by Mike Petrillo and Chubby Cifelli, it was made popular by the Four Seasons in 1966, when it made #10 on Billboard, and #12 on Cashbox.

The song deals with grief, relationships and other universal topics that the Four Seasons always sang about really kept them in everyone's consciousness.

We're so excited to share our dissection of this song with you! We also made a big announcement about our party on October 14, 2024 celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original out-of-town production of Jersey Boys at La Jolla Playhouse, in California! You're not going to want to miss this. Buy tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/oh-what-a-night-celebrating-20-years-of-jersey-boys-for-fans-by-fans-tickets-899366067117?aff=oddtdtcreator

  • Sam L Williams: Celebrating Uncredited Studio Musicians of the 60s

Sam L. Williams, host of the Millennial Throwback Machine podcast, is committed to finding the unsung heroes behind classic American records: the studio musicians, arrangers, sound engineers, and more, who never got credit for their work.

Sam and Gia met at the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons start ceremony at the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

In this episode, Sam joins us from his home in sunny California to give us names of musicians who helped define the sound of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in the 60s, based on two sources:

    1. Studio Stories- How New York Records Were Made. A book by David Simons
    2. His interview with Charlie Calello!
    3. Some musicians include:

      ● George Devins, percussionist

      ● Al Gorgoni, guitar

      ● Buddy Saltzman, drums

      ● Lou Morrow, bass

      ● Stan Free, keyboard

      ● Charlie Mason, lyricist

For all our music theory cats, we also broke down every instrument in “Let’s Hang On,” the original Four Seasons record and a cover by The Manhattan Transfer (with Frankie Valli on vocals).

Sam is a singer-songwriter and arranger himself, and we discussed how The Four Seasons influenced his music.

As Gia reflects on the loss of her beloved Nana and gears up for a special 10-year reunion ("10 years!") with friends this year, she feels particularly connected to Frankie's direct address in the finale of Jersey Boys. We're all just "tryin' to get home" — Aren't we?

-More details on how we met Frankie Valli at Radio City in March, thanks to Pam Singer, Wanda Libardi and Toni Valli.
-Her experience at Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' Star Ceremony at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, meeting our friends Amanda, George Perez (Music 4 All 4 Seasons YouTube Channel), musician and arranger Shane Aguilera and Sam Williams (The 60s Millennial Throwback Machine podcast)

    6. Summers in Jersey: Daveed's Version

      Hi there!

Happy Silhouettes Sunday, everyone! We've got a solo episode with Daveed this week. Gia's at a friend's birthday getaway in Virginia with limited internet access, so we got a "direct address" straight from Daveed for you all!

Today, we're breaking down our friend Aaron De Jesus's heartbreaking performance as Frankie Valli, with his interpretation of the "summers in Jersey" monologue. This performance really resonated with us!

      Things to look out for:

-His reactions to the phone rings

-The amount of time he sits with the news of Francine's passing

-The subtle overcast of the weight of the world on his shoulders while he speaks during a potentially peaceful and happy moment in his life

Keep a lookout for tickets for Tuacahn Center of the Arts's production of Jersey Boys, directed by Aaron De Jesus and choreographed by his fellow Jersey Boys legend, Candi Boyd!

We're doubly excited to announce that Aaron honored us with the task of creating a dramaturgy packet for this production. We had a blast creating it! We love you, our friend!

      Enjoy!
