Would you choose your home again today? In Episode 1 of Home, Life and What Comes Next, I talk about the difference between a home you're comfortable in and a home that still supports the life you want. We look at what your house really requires of you, why downsizing isn't automatically the answer, what staying could look like, and one simple exercise to help you get clear before you make any decision. I sold most of what I owned, moved into a much smaller space, and said it was one of the best decisions I’d ever made.
So why am I looking for more square footage now?
Because I changed.
Downsizing gave me the simplicity and quiet I needed at that point in my life. Now I’m creating and recording more, and I’ve realized I need a space that supports the life I’m building today.
After more than 25 years in real estate, I’ve seen how easily we make housing decisions based on what we’re supposedly meant to want. We’re told bigger is better when we’re younger, then somewhere along the way we’re told women over 50 should start downsizing.
Who decided that?
In this episode, I’m talking about downsizing after 50, changing your mind, and choosing the right amount of space for the way you actually want to live.
Sometimes changing your mind doesn’t mean your first decision was wrong. It means that decision got you where you needed to go.

We talk a lot about finding ourselves. We don’t talk nearly enough about what happens when we outgrow ourselves.
Maybe you’ve always been the organizer, caretaker, entrepreneur, extrovert, strong one, or the woman everyone can count on. Those identities may have served you for decades.
But are you allowed to stop being her?
In this episode, I’m talking about identity after 50 and what happens when other people are still expecting a version of you that no longer feels like you.
I’ve had versions of myself that served me well, too. But I’ve realized that doesn’t mean every version of me gets a lifetime contract.
I’m Coni J. Mackey, sharing my Silver Hair Wisdom about identity, personal growth, self-discovery, and becoming more honest about who we are now.

What do you actually want now?
Not what makes the most sense. Not what your children want. Not what your friends think you should do. Not what looks impressive. And not necessarily what the woman you used to be would have chosen.
I’ve always been good at figuring out what makes sense. I can analyze something until there isn’t an angle left. But I’ve learned that what makes sense and what I actually want aren’t always the same thing.
In this episode, we’re looking at relationships, work, money, family, entrepreneurship, where we live, and the decisions we make after 50 through one deceptively simple question: What do I actually want now?
You may already know the answer. You may have simply gotten very good at talking yourself out of it.

Sometimes the answer comes out while we’re still explaining the question.
In my Thursday group, there are moments when one of us will be talking through a problem and another woman will stop her and say, “Girl, did you just hear what you just said?”
That has taught me something about self-trust.
I don’t always need someone to tell me what to do. Sometimes I need someone who will listen and ask me a question I haven’t considered. A good question can change where you’re standing when you look at a problem.
In this episode, I’m talking about making decisions after 50, listening to yourself, and recognizing when the wisdom you’re looking for may already be coming out of your own mouth.

What if the life that feels good to you now looks completely different from the life you once thought you were supposed to want?
A conversation in my Thursday women’s group got me thinking about ambition, burnout, and the pressure we can put on ourselves to keep achieving. Sometimes nobody else is telling us we need to do more. That voice is coming from inside.
In this episode, I’m asking a different question: What if you don’t need another goal, project, or accomplishment? What if what you want now is simply enough?
I’m Coni J. Mackey, sharing my Silver Hair Wisdom about life after 50, changing expectations, self-trust, and figuring out what you actually want in this season of your life.

Were you ever told to be quiet?
Many of us grew up believing that asking too many questions, speaking too openly, or taking up too much space made us difficult. Over time, those messages became habits, and eventually, they became our identity.
In this episode, I reflect on how childhood conditioning shaped my own voice, why I stopped asking questions, and what it took to begin trusting myself again.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’ve been living as the edited version of yourself instead of the real one, this conversation is for you.
Because the world doesn’t need a quieter version of you.
It needs the woman you were always meant to become.

What happens when the people who love you are convinced they know what would make you happy, but you’re not so sure?
A woman in my Thursday group shared that her friends want her to find someone. They believe she deserves a loving relationship. She isn’t convinced that’s what she wants.
This episode isn’t really about whether women over 50 should date. It’s about something much bigger: separating what we actually want from the expectations of people who genuinely love us.
Sometimes the answer isn’t yes or no. Sometimes the most truthful answer is, “I don’t know yet.”
I’m Coni J. Mackey, sharing my Silver Hair Wisdom about relationships after 50, self-trust, changing expectations, and giving ourselves permission to decide what we want.

I’ve spent more than 25 years working in different areas of real estate, and there’s a part of that experience I haven’t shared much with my Silver Hair Wisdom community. I’m changing that.
In this episode, we’re talking about the house. Specifically, what happens when a home filled with memories no longer fits the life you’re living now.
Maybe the children are gone. Maybe a marriage ended or your spouse passed away. Maybe maintaining the house has become too much. Or maybe you’re simply ready for something different.
Selling the property doesn’t mean you’re selling the memories.
I’ll also share some alternatives you may not have considered before deciding that your only choices are to stay or sell.
Some real estate strategies discussed in this episode may have financial, tax, or legal implications depending on your circumstances. Consider appropriate professional guidance before making a decision.

What do you want your life to look like now, and what role, if any, does your house play in that life?

Dating after fifty isn’t just about finding someone new. It’s about understanding what you’re no longer willing to sacrifice. In this episode, Coni explores why many women discover they’re seeking peace, companionship, authenticity, and emotional maturity more than the relationship they once imagined.

Welcome to Silver Hair Wisdom with Coni J. Mackey.
This is a podcast for women over 50 who know there’s more to this season of life than simply growing older.
Each…
Some episodes are personal reflections. Others feature women sharing the stories that shaped them and the wisdom they found along the way.
No experts. No celebrities. Just real conversations that remind us the answers we’re searching for are often already within us.
Because the greatest wisdom isn’t something we find.
It’s something we remember.
