For the first episode in the Last Salmon podcast series, I speak to one of salmon angling’s most renowned campaigners, Mikael Frodin.
Mikael is one of the most experienced, well-known and successful salmon anglers in Scandinavia with a personal best salmon over 50 pounds, twenty over 40 pounds, several hundreds over 30lbs and ten sea trout over 22 pounds.
But it is his environmental campaigning against overfishing, hatcheries and fish farming problems that has brought him to a wider audience, especially with the release of the film Artifishal in 2019 which shone a light on the horrific cost of hatcheries and fish farms and also landed him in court.
I speak to Mikael about his life spent as a salmon fly fisherman, what we all need to do to save the wild Atlantic salmon, and why we’re either the Lost Generation or the Last Generation of salmon anglers…
