Tennis is a game of patterns and percentages. Make the right decisions more often than your opponent and it’s a recipe for winning! In this episode, we talk to Point Loma Nazarene head tennis coach Curt Wheeler about some simple singles tactics and patterns that anyone can quickly and easily apply to their game.

Curt grew up a highly touted junior player out of Salem, Oregon. He played his college tennis at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where he excelled at both singles and doubles, culminating in an NAIA All-American selection in 2009. After a brief stint coaching back in his hometown Salem area, Curt returned to Point Loma and shortly thereafter was named the head coach of both the men’s and women’s programs.

He’ll be the first to admit that he's not the biggest and strongest player out there, but one of the things that has made Curt so successful throughout his career as both a player and a coach is his mind for the game. He has a keen understanding of tactics, patterns and how to expose his opponent’s weaknesses. In this conversation I pick his brain a bit and learn what he thinks are some key tactics that he likes to teach to his players at Point Loma.
