And pal Noah Gittell stops by to talk about his new book, BASEBALL: THE MOVIE, out this May and available for pre-order now. Emergency pod!!! Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Mets and 29-year-old right-hander Luis Severino have agreed to terms on a one-year free agent contract. Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the deal is for $13 million over one season.
The former Yankees standout has dealt with some tough times since his 2017-2018 peak (3.18 ERA, 10.53 K/9, 2.27 BB/9, 0.94 HR/9 over 63 starts), but a decent 2022, a low-risk financial commitment for 2024, and a very unique change of scenery all lends credence to the Mets' hope that Severino can rebound after an atrocious 2023 (6.65 ERA, 2.32 HR/9 over 89.1 IP).
