Back to School, Homecoming & What’s Really Going On?
By Simply Magnificent | September 2026
Fall is here, and there is A LOT happening! From getting back into the school routine to preparing for HBCU Homecoming season, football returning, women’s sports continuing to grow, and major conversations happening around the world, this is the perfect time to check in, catch up, and talk about what matters.
In the latest episode of Simply Magnificent, we’re doing just that.
🎒 Back to School & New Beginnings
School is officially back in session, and that means new classes, new goals, new schedules—and for many of us, a whole lot of balancing!
Going back to school as an adult can look very different. It’s not just about getting a degree. It can be about building a better career, learning something new, changing direction, or finally accomplishing a goal that you put on hold.
This episode gets personal as I share my own school update and talk about what it means to continue investing in yourself while balancing work, life, career goals, and everything else that comes with adulthood.
The reminder? It’s never too late to start a new chapter.
🎓 HBCU Homecoming Season Is Coming!
You already know what time it is...
Homecoming season!
HBCU Homecoming is about so much more than football. It’s the bands, the fashion, the tailgates, the alumni, the parties, the Greek organizations, the food, the music, and—of course—the culture.
For many people, Homecoming is an opportunity to return to campus, reconnect with old friends, celebrate their school, support HBCU athletics, and experience the energy that makes HBCU culture so special.
But we’re also asking an important question:
Is Homecoming still about the culture, or has it become too commercial?
With bigger events, larger parties, sponsorships, influencers, and social media, Homecoming has changed. Is that a bad thing—or is it simply another way for HBCUs and Black culture to grow?
That’s a conversation worth having.
🏙️ Atlanta Is Always Outside!
If you live in or around Atlanta, you already know there is never a shortage of things to do.
With college students returning, HBCU events picking up, football season underway, concerts, networking events, restaurants, pop-ups, community events, and nightlife, Atlanta is entering another busy season.
But Atlanta isn't just about having fun.
It’s also a city full of Black entrepreneurs, creatives, professionals, students, athletes, and small-business owners.
That makes networking especially important.
Sometimes the person you meet at a football game, Homecoming event, networking event, or local business could become your next client, business partner, mentor, friend, or opportunity.
So this fall, don’t just go to the event.
Go make a connection.
🌎 What's Happening in the World?
We’re also taking a step back from Atlanta and looking at some of the bigger conversations happening around the world.
International conflicts, the economy, energy prices, technology, and the cost of living can sometimes feel far removed from our everyday lives—but global events can eventually affect our communities, our wallets, our jobs, and our future.
And then there’s AI.
Artificial intelligence continues to change the way we work, learn, communicate, and do business.
Instead of simply asking whether AI is going to replace jobs, maybe the bigger question is:
Are we learning how to work WITH AI?
For students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and people working in technology, understanding AI is becoming increasingly important.
The goal isn't to be afraid of change.
The goal is to understand it.
🏈 Football Is Back!
Football fans can finally say it:
The NFL is back!
And that means it's time to talk about the Atlanta Falcons.
After the Falcons' opening-week loss to Pittsburgh, we're asking whether Atlanta has what it takes to compete this season.
Can the offense become more consistent? Can the team find its rhythm? And what should we expect from stars like Bijan Robinson and Drake London as the season continues?
One thing is certain: Atlanta sports fans are going to have opinions!
And that's exactly what makes sports so much fun.
🏀 The WNBA & the Growth of Women's Sports
We’re also giving women's sports their flowers.
The WNBA continues to attract more attention, fans, media coverage, and investment, while athletes continue to show why women's professional sports deserve a bigger spotlight.
And right here in Atlanta, we're supporting the Atlanta Dream.
But the conversation goes beyond basketball.
Women's sports provide young girls with something incredibly important: representation and possibility.
When you see someone who looks like you competing at the highest level, it can change what you believe you can accomplish.
So the question is:
Have women's sports finally reached the level of attention they deserve—or is there still more work to do?
💬 Let's Talk About It: Are We Too Dependent on Social Media?
Our final conversation asks a question that hits close to home:
Are we too dependent on social media?
Think about it.
We take pictures at dinner.
We record concerts.
We document vacations.
We post Homecoming outfits.
We share birthdays, relationships, accomplishments, and everyday moments.
But sometimes, are we actually enjoying the moment—or are we thinking about how the moment is going to look online?
Social media can be an incredible tool for business, networking, creativity, and connection.
But not everything has to become content.
Sometimes it’s okay to put the phone down.
Sometimes a memory can just be a memory.
✨ Your Magnificent Moment
As we head into a new season, here's the message I want you to take with you:
You don't have to have everything figured out.
If you're starting school, changing careers, building a business, looking for a new opportunity, or simply trying to figure out what's next, give yourself permission to grow.
Your journey doesn't have to look like somebody else's.
Your timeline doesn't have to match anyone else's.
Keep learning.
Keep showing up.
Keep networking.
Keep creating.
Keep moving forward.
Because you don't have to be perfect to be magnificent.
