The Gutter chronicles the author's journey to the gutter, telling the stories and sharing the insights he gained while spending time with the people who dwell there.
The Gutter serves as a manifesto for all different types of people in the Church: those who yearn to impact the culture around them, those who have reassessed their discovery of Christ and want to make their story known, and those who are seeking out new, fresh ways of exhibiting Christ's love to the poor in spirit.

Best Spirituality Book I've Read in 20 years.
EVERY PASTOR/MINISTER/YOUTH LEADER MUST READ THIS BOOK!! Gross clearly lays out the concepts of "love the sinner, hate the sin" that 98% of "Christians" seem to forget. He balances the fine line between compromising your faith and putting yourself on the level that most of the people we try to reach are on. He gives clear examples of what he's talking about, and encourages you to find your own niche. What I love most is how he also acknowledged that we, as humans, are prone to fall ourselves and that our humanity is not a liability, but a tool to be used. I highly, highly recommend this book to all people in ministry of any kind.
The Gutter
This book is very good, and full of many excellent ideas and quotes. I often read with a highlighter in hand, and my copy is full of yellow. However, the amount of pushing the author gives to the idea of "The Gutter" gets a little old, and I found myself thinking "Ok, I get the idea, you don't have to say it again."
I also found it difficult to pinpoint exactly what the author identified as "The Gutter" that he was talking about. In the beginning of the book he writes out a list of what the gutter is, and the explanations he gives all seem to be different from each other. Throughout the book, I was left asking "Which gutter is he talking about now? The physical place? The spiritual? The emotional?"
It is easier to be critical than to praise, so I will leave it at those few issues I have with the book. I would recommend it to others, but warn them to try not get too bored with the seemingly forced theme.
Amazing
What a great book. Craig Gross really puts it into perspective about what a true Christian is called to. The gutter can be anywhere and we were all there at one point in our lives.
Not only is the subject great, the book is written in an easy to read way. The reader is kept interested the whole way through, with stories and encouragement.
Great author, great book. Thumbs up. Now I'm off to the gutter. :)
Life Changing!
Growing up, I had different beliefs than those around me, but found those differences difficult to express. Thanks to Craig, my feelings found words that could describe them! The Gutter is one of, if not my absolute favorite, books. Thank you, Craig. I truly enjoy your works, as they are uplifting and centering (my life). God bless!
